Anyone tried something like this or done other installs in any of these areas that might be able to give me some insight?

Looking to route a long USB cable underneath the center console, and behind the stereo to come out the top of the dash.

With the end goal to look like this:

What are you looking to run with that? If data is going through it, you might have some issues with reliability with that length of added run. The center console connector can already be iffy as it is.

I wonder if it wouldn't be better and easier to go from the dash connection instead? I would think it's a bit silly to have the USB go all the way out there just to come all the way back.

There was a claim by a JL owner in the JL forum that they split behind the dash at the USB/USBC hub, ran up to the top of the dash, and that CarPlay still worked. He included a step by step: https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/fo...-2-x-20w-pd-usb-c-ports-on-upper-dash.106419/

I ordered identical parts and it didn't work for me, as CarPlay would not function. As far as using a long USB from the console, I assume it would work, you just need to drill/cut a hole in the plastic at the top of the dash. Not sure if cable length would affect the CarPlay performance, though.

If the intention is data transmission for CarPlay and not just charging the device, I highly recommend getting a wireless CarPlay adaptor and just running a USB cable from under the dash to charge the device. I have a magsafe charger holder on my dash mount and CarPlay adapter in the armrest, it works perfectly. I use navigation all the time and for long trips, no issues. From under the dash you can just wire in a 12V USB charger.

I have pretty much the same setup.

See that cut out on the right hand side that does not have sensor? Pop that cover off. You will have to cut out a notch for the usb cable.

You can run a usb cable down that and behind the glove box. Then I run it under the trim. Across the front of the shifter. Along the side of the center console and up into the notch under the console lid.

I used a right angled plugs. Mine also has the ram track. You can cut out a notch in the back to run in under and up like you see in that photo.

Overall, very easy to do and works for charging and android auto.

I bought a used media hub off eBay, the hub that is in the bottom of the dash and mounted that hub into the space in the top of the dash. I disconnected the wires from the hub on the bottom of dash and ran them to the top. Only downside is the hub at the bottom is inactive. But I hated having wires everywhere. I have the bulletproof mount up top, so it’s much cleaner this way.

Agree - that's a lot of cable going through a lot of electrical areas........ USB doesn't like long, or interference. A quality cable of that length won't be cheap.
AA has known issues with some cables.

I like this idea of the USB-C on the dash so I don't have a stupid cable hanging out.

I have the Full Bulletpoint dash mount system, so it will cover all but the little bit of the charging cable hanging out for the phone.

I guess you won't work on mine - you seem to have forgotten some parts!

(J/K!!)
Drive up to Maryland and I'll do it up LOL

I pulled power off from the pink/orange IGN wire in the harness for the OEM AUX switched since I had already tapped the 12v outlet for my Midland MTX275 radio; didn't want to over tax that circuit.

Next is running a flush mount Cat6 port for my radio handset so its not running across the from of my dash..........I'm becoming more and more OCD with wire/harness management
