The JL392 only has the AWD option btw. I have two winters with 2H now in snow and wet bla bla conditions. With the rear so much lighter than the front there is no under steering and the only time I needed to flip it to 4H was on steeper narrow roads where you go slow anyways with ice snow packs or getting in and out of a snow bank lol.
According to this article, it's the same transfer case used in the rest of the JL/JTs, so it doesn't seem to be a torque issue.

"Jeep isn’t making the Selec-Trac transfer case with its full-time four-wheel-drive option available with the diesel engine, though an engineer said that’s more a complexity-reducing decision than any technical hurdle. That’s a shame as the full-time mode is a set-it-and-forget-it features that works well in rainy or slushy conditions. "

How does a full time transfer case work with the front axle disconnect?

I’ve owned Evo’s, Sti’s, MS3, FiST, all flew in the winter but only when they had snow tires on them.

I’ve also owned all sorts of trucks, Tahoe’s, TRD’s, Dodges, and all drove great with appropriate tires on them. Most that had a 4a option though had their transfer cases replaced at least once if not twice. Eventually stopped using 4a on them and would manually throw between 2h and 4h in order to not burn out the T-case.

Get the diesel, the power will put a smile on your face.

In the Poconos most trucks either run dedicated snows in 2WD or all terrains and live in 4HI. With some of the stuff we see, I think most would actually prefer 4HI over 4A.

I’m in the second camp, I never have issues with tighter turns because the roads are not only cold but also have sand and char, especially where slower/tighter turning comes into play. The tires just slip as needed, I rarely feel a thing.

The FAD would be connected in 4-Auto mode, and the transfer case would use its system of clutches to allow slippage to prevent binding on dry pavement. I think in 4-High its identical in operation, except the clutching is firmer to try and maintain a 50/50 split front to rear.

Personally I don't like to even use 4-Auto unless I need it for these reasons.

My understanding is the Selec Trac clutches are computer controlled and the computer only sends torque to the front when the rear slips. In that case, leaving the TC in 4-Auto wouldn't necessarily wear the clutches unless you're getting slip.

It's also my understanding that the clutch is mechanically locked in 4-Hi and 4-Lo.

I wonder if this could be something that Jeep adds for 2022? SelecTrac paired with the 8HP75 trans (which is only paired with the EcoDiesel)?

I am tuned ... waiting for the new order guide. That's like early July, right?

I'm hoping for June, but with all the automotive disruptions this year, who knows!
