Everything I've read on the EPA bullshit is regarding commercial vehicles, not passenger.

Theres also crap out there about removing DEF and the ability to disable a truck due to incorrect or low DEF, but thats only for commercial trucks that operate north of the 59th parallel.
I work pretty closely to new commercial vehicles.

Everything I've seen, we are headed straight for EPA 2027 engines that are more complex with more emissions systems than they have now. Maybe it will come to pass that they won't derate when emissions act up, but that's about as far as I'm going to hold my breath.

So... You do not want to accept my bet, but you do want to move goalposts.

Understood :)

I'm out, Merry Christmas 🎄
I don’t have a dog in this fight, no emissions test here. Deleted my 23 with 9K miles and never looking back…Have a good day

Yeah, they'll never remove emissions systems. Maybe they'll get a little relaxed on some of it, but they'll never remove them. Heck, I wouldn't even care so much if it weren't for the fact that they currently force the vehicle into a disabled state if something goes wrong and dramatically reduce lifespan.

DEF? Meh, not a huge deal except when it decides to shut my truck down.
Recirc? It wouldn't be an issue if it didn't gum everything up so badly.

I'll be honest, I don't want any of it on a diesel truck that I own - but that's just me. It's where we are nowadays. As mentioned previously, even gas trucks (like the 3.5 Ecoboost) will be coming with SCR's now and have a 'regen' cycle.

I do agree - most of the problem with DEF is the de-rating. Taking that away and well, you can just deal with the problem when it's convenient.

EGR though. Gross.

I've long considered selling my Camaro and buying a pre-emissions Duramax with the money for no other reason than I want one, but they are commanding WILD money now.

the deleted gen 3 is not the same animal. I’m not seeing any overtemp on oil or coolant, nor tranny and I’m still running the stock pan. Towing 18’ tandem trailer/boat - hot summer day. EOC #2 tow tune, 2023 JTRD. You do want to make sure that you don’t block the grill off!
Many of us live where there is a visual and OBDII sniffer test anually. Unfortunately that meant me and the truck I loved went our separate ways. I still see the guy that bought it driving around a few times a month and makes me do a double take.

I still have my 01 dodge Cummins, almost 270K on it. I have a fuel tank in the back for hauling heating oil, all I run in that truck is heating oil. I put an ounce of Walmart 2cyl oil in for every gallon of diesel. It wil probably run another 270K before the body self destructs. That is the way diesel are supposed to last… unfortunately they won’t run that long with the current smog crap on them…

want to read up on it?

The new EPA regulations for diesel trucks, effective from model year 2027, aim to prevent sudden power loss due to issues with diesel exhaust fluid systems, ensuring that trucks can operate without abrupt shutdowns. These changes are designed to improve reliability and reduce economic hardships for truckers and farmers who rely on diesel vehicles.

Overview of New EPA Regulations on Diesel Trucks
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced significant changes to regulations affecting diesel trucks, particularly focusing on emissions standards and diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) systems.
Key Changes in Regulations
Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) Guidelines
  • Revised Software Requirements: Starting with model year 2027, all new diesel trucks must be designed to prevent sudden power loss when DEF runs out. This aims to protect operators from unexpected shutdowns.
  • Guidance for Existing Vehicles: The EPA has issued new guidance allowing manufacturers to modify DEF systems on older diesel vehicles to reduce performance derates, which can severely limit vehicle operation.
Emissions Standards
  • Stricter NOx Limits: The EPA is proceeding with tighter nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions limits for heavy-duty trucks set for the 2027 model year. The standard will remain at 0.035 grams per horsepower-hour.
  • Potential Adjustments: While the implementation date will not change, the EPA may revise warranty and useful life requirements to ease compliance costs for manufacturers.
Industry Response
  • Support from Trucking Associations: The trucking industry has expressed support for the EPA's actions, viewing them as necessary to reduce operational burdens and costs associated with compliance.
  • Concerns Over Costs: Despite the support, there are concerns about the financial impact of these regulations on truck operators, especially during challenging market conditions.
These regulatory changes reflect the EPA's ongoing efforts to balance environmental protection with the operational needs of the trucking industry.

It applies and is written for the trucking industry and for farm tractors and combines .

How did this go from a discussion about his first diesel Gladiator to a discussion about regulations and smog on a truck he doesn't even have yet.?

Well... the easy answer is because some people believe only deleted diesels should exist, and the OP lives in a state where some counties require emission testing.

Anyone who believes their diesel will be just fine with the smog crap, is living in a fantasy world.

And at what point can you actually ignore the EPA? Or delete? Useful life I've heard that term before. So what determines that?
