Issue with 3rd Brake Light

It’s not the mini. It’s the connection inside the housing of the light. It’s poorly soldered together.

I took my tailgate apart and cleaned the connections and added some dielectric grease. It works, sometimes. No inspection in AZ so I give up. It’s not worth the hassle at the dealer.

Thanks - so we pulled out the mini and reinstalled it and it worked for a day or two. Now the 3rd brake light it out again. Z automotive said take the mini out and update the software and reinstall it. Still doesn't work - so I will go back to the dealer and this time let them put a new 3rd brake light in. It is worth it to me!!

Update - 3rd brake light worked for a few days - but now the tailgate won't lock when you lock the vehicle. So frustrating! Un-married the mini and it is back at the dealership to let them see if they can resolve the issues.

Finally yesterday (3rd trip to the dealer) they replaced my 3rd brake light. The 2nd trip they claimed it was a loose wire which caused the tailgate not to lock and 3rd light not to work. It worked for two days, but at least the locking tailgate still worked. I would take it to the dealer and have them look into the problem. Be patient as it probably won't be fixed the first time, but they billed mine under warranty so I was happy. Good luck - hope this helps!

I believe they quoted me somewhere around $250 for the part and then an hour to install it - so $100 was better than total cost.

Mine has stopped working as of a couple weeks ago. I guess I’m next to deep dive and check out the connections. It did come back on but then has stayed off.

Curious as to how folks determine when a 3rd brake light isn't working - are they standing behind their truck when someone else is driving?
Man, I can't see mine when I'm driving it. It may have been out for a year and I'd not know it.
I don't normally apply the brakes and walk around the truck (I find that to be extremely difficult, even if I was a much younger person) so do people have mirrors in their garages?

A couple days later, backing into the garage and moving up toward the back wall, I noticed the 3rd brake light was illuminating the wall right behind it so I put it in park and rested a block on the brake and went back to have a look. It was working.
The wife figured I did something with all my wiring (which she also thinks I’ve been killing my batteries). NOPE!

So now the 3rd light doesn’t work.
(That’s the first explanation)
The second is that my kids are always pulling pranks on me and when they are all laughing (with me) and not at me, they say “we were just pulling your leg, hence, my left leg is sooooo long, I can apply the brakes with my left and hop to the back to see the lights. True story.

I don't have a wall behind mine when I back it in.......... just another 20' of garage and a car behind it.
My backup lights scorch the stuff behind me, but I'd never see brake lights back there.
It's a crappy 1980 uninsulated, unfinished garage inside.
