Wondering if anyone has had issues removing their transfer case? I have a 22' rubicon MT w/ 4k miles. I took it to the dealer because it was leaking transfer case fluid. They found the leak at the seals but reported to me they had issues removing the brace to pull the transfer case out. Apparently one of the bolts would just spin and not come out.
They're blaming the factory for not properly welding the nut to the frame. I'm wondering if they know what they're doing ?‍♂
I'm going on 3 weeks in a rental with the latest update being that they are taking the truck to the body shop to weld the nut to mount the transfer case back in.
Anyone experience this with their JT? Could it be a poor job from the factory? I didn't have any noticeable vibrations or driveline issues. Just the leaky seal at the transfer case. The truck is practically new.

you can drill a small hole beside the nut in the frame, tig weld the nut to the frame through the edge of the hole, then unscrew the bolt

Since the dealer is doing the job I'll inspect what their fix was once I get it back. Curious to see if this is what was done. Thanks for the info

Ask the dealer on how it was done.

Finally got my truck back last week. The service advisor showed me the nut that was slipping was on the driver side T-Case skid plate. There's only one and it goes into the frame from the bottom. He couldn't explain what the fix was but was trying to blame the installation of my rock sliders. I didn't disclose that I installed them because I knew it was BS since I didn't have to remove the skid plate to install the sliders.
I'm guessing the dealer probably took an impact to remove the skid plate and that caused the nut to slip inside the frame. Who knows ?‍♂
At least it's fixed and have my truck back. The original problem was a $20 seal at the T-case input shaft.
Over the weekend I removed the skid plate to clean the residual grease and oil left on it from the leak. I had no issues with the skid plate and took pictures of the nut. Looks like a riv-nut to me but not sure.

That looks like a riv-nut and if not installed properly or over torqued with the fastener that goes in it, will spin.

I would find a different dealer in the future if they can't deal with a spinning bolt.... Just saying

Good point! Luckily I have a few to pick from locally. This job shouldn't have taken a month. Nice of them to put me in a Challenger for the month but it's not as fun as my truck, lol
