Can someone tell me what this is (pic) and if it is necessary. Mine is a '22 Willys, and i just did the AFE exhaust and CAI, i know not alot of help but im looking at anything to make the air go in and out as best that can be done w/o delete. If this gizmo is a restriction i will remove it. Also when putting the exhaust on i found a butterfly on the downstream side of the DPF that i didnt know existed. If i leave the controller hooked up but get rid of the flapper valve will it throw codes?

Your first question. That is one of the 2 charge pipes. They go from the turbo to intercooler. Intercooler to intake. AFE makes replacements for them.

2nd question. I don't know.

Looks like a charge pipe, the second question. Wouldn't want to speculate since there are no photos on the exhaust question. But modern emission systems in diesels are basically witchcraft. I wouldn't touch it with a 30-foot pole unless your intent was doing some 'other modifications' too. the system would certainly notice.

I thought that valve was to regulate the post and pre DPF EGR ? I wouldnt touch it.. I would presume those EGR friendly setups would want more post dpf gas, since it is better filtered and would result in less soot in EGR system.

More then likely there to separate the plastic pipe from the turbo outlet. Allow for less heat transfer to the plastic. Also the butterfly valve is there to force post dpf egr gas’s to the egr system. Don’t mess with it unless your tuning for a delete.
