Rule # 1 of owning a jeep w/ a soft top - don’t lock your doors and keep valuables out of it. Locking the center console or glovebox is just asking for damage. Id rather they open my door than cut or damage my soft top.

The dealer has no control over the supply chain. They did what they could to help you. Neither Jeep or the dealer is responsible for the security of your vehicle. You made the decision to accept a vehicle that wasn't equipped the way you wanted it. Once you signed the papers, it became your problem.
I'm not even reading the other comments - because you echoed my first reaction - I have trouble admitting when I accept things I should not because I'm in a hurry or my emotions are clouding my logic. I accepted some things about ours that - yeah, being human, I complained about later but honestly, I DID make the choice, I DID decide and I DID sign the papers and accept delivery. Had I been less emotional about getting into a JT as soon as I could, I could have saved another 2 or 3 grand and had a couple of options I MISSED because I got in a hurry.

In short, Mr_Bill once again echoes my honest, shoving all else to the side, reaction and in the process, made me be honest about my own choices. I tend to "ready, fire, aim" too many times.

Not to be this guy but what makes you think that your jeep only got broken into because you have a soft top... Coming from someone who’s had to replace a side window because of some crackhead breaking in.

If you think its just going to get broken into again I’m assuming it’s a shitty area your in. I doubt a hardtop will be the end all of your car getting broken into
Understandable.. I was parked at a hotel with cameras. The jeep with the hardtop next to me didn't get broken into. Only two vehicles that got broken into was my gladiator and a convertible Sebring. If they would have busted out a window, my insurance would have covered it because it would be less than my deductible and I'd be less mad, I think... Not mad that they broke into the Jeep, more mad that I was a, pun intended, soft target.

My wife will only leave stuff of any value at all in a vehicle if it can't be seen and isn't in the usual places. Stuff tucked up into places only we know about. She won't leave her phone or any money in the console or glove box. I have suggested that she simply stick her phone or other stuff in the console or glove box - and I get "this look" back at me that tells me it was a dumb idea. And - she's a women with intuition and thinks differently than many folks. She's had a really really rough life when younger, so I acccept her thinking on some of this stuff.

Sounds like an all around shitty scenario. I will say, from a customer satisfaction perspective, it would be nice to FCA or the dealer go the extra mile here, even if they don't need to and swap out the top that was documented as being damaged in shipping for an undamaged one, or cover the cost of repairing the damaged one.

In customer service it's not always just about keeping you specifically as a customer, but also representing the brand as a whole. I know there are companies and brands I will buy from again and again just because their customer service is impeccable. Must they do something? Probably not. Could they do something? Absolutely.
I think this is where I'm at... I don't think they NEED to.. I think they should. I've shown repeated loyalty to their brand for years and never ever had any issues. This is my first issue, I wish it was just taken into greater consideration.

Not concerned about them actually getting in.. there was nothing valuable in there. They cut it because it was the hidden spot from the cameras.. I shouldn't have "combat parked". They never even tried to open my door, because of they had, they'd see that it wasn't locked.

The police are just going to file a report no mater if your doors are locked or not. Do you think they are going to put a detective on a car break in because the owner locked the doors and you get no detectives on the case if you tell them they where unlocked? You get no detective or any other help for that matter. They just file the paperwork and move on to the next.

If you have a locked door clause in your insurance you may want to look around for a different insurance company.
You got that right. More than one employee where I work said their vehicle was broken into and notebook computer, digital dictation devices, whatever, were stolen. Any hope of recovery? cops try not to laugh if you ask......... only if there's a rash in an area and they can find perps. But the ones and twos break-ins, no way. Ain't gonna happen unless you are VERY lucky.
OF all of the thefts I have dealt with as an IT person, or even personal property taken, nothing was ever recovered, the culprits never found - and that was expected.

And I can see the logic in it.. I just think that my request isn't out of the question. They wouldn't be at a loss when comparing to me just waiting indefinitely. I could have just ate it and accepted whatever rain damage was gonna come my way for the next few months.. maybe I could have requested a refund and bought a takeoff from somebody for less... No.. I did what I had to do to secure my vehicle from the elements and future cuts since I didn't even have an expected date to received my top... I guess my emotions are getting the best of me in this situation.. but again.. I do understand that they don't have to do anything.. I think they can and should be willing.. but obviously I'm biased to my opinion

Ironically my wife is a police officer and told me the police report won't do anything but help with the insurance claim ... The only change I had of getting finger prints would have been from the part they cut off but they took it with them through the woods...

I know, in the past i have certainly just left my doors unlocked on my old YJ's with soft-tops but I imagine there is some legal "0 fucks given" by the Police and your Insurance if your car is broken into and it wasn't locked.
Our '88 YJ soft top didn't even HAVE locks on the doors - AMC figured it was a waste of money since the tops could be "bypassed" so easily...

At least you are honest and see multiple angles.
Frankly, more than one person has indeed bought a "take-off" and been quite happy.
Whatever you do - keep your cool. Nothing raises "hackles" and defenses like someone coming with not just 1, but 2 six-shooters pointed at them.

And as you likely know with forums - don't ask unless you are ready to see and hear things you may not like.
On the other hand - you may get some helpful tips along the way, too.

In any case, good luck and I'm sure no forum member actually wishes you ill-will.

By that time it had MOPAR decals on it. My 87 did - funny to see some still say AMC and others clearly said "Chrysler Corporation" with the pentastar logo.

I could add - your Jeep had a top?
As I recall, my brother's first - a CJ7, didn't have a top - if it did, maybe he simply never used it. I'll have to ask.

Yeah, why lock doors when all you had to do is pull back a flap a bit and reach in.

I bet I have some TSBs that relate to that Jeep in my collection.

As an aside - I also see something in your profile on the left -
Tell your wife THANKS for doing something we all need, too few respect, and even fewer understand just how difficult it can be.
And to you, too - military.

I have the utmost respect for the police, even though as a teen I used to, uh, well, I'd rather not see them LOL But to be honest, everything really WAS my fault.

I'm not sensitive. And in general I'm not bothered by opinions. I am a part of the forum because in general, all the Jeep forums I'm a member of have great people with great insight and advice. I don't always agree but I'm open to different perspectives. I know that if it's something I'm passionate about or heavily biased toward, I'll be a bit more stubborn with... Like this case.. but like everything, I'll get over it.

Thank you. We were all teens at one point and I'm sure many of us did questionable things, but they do a job far more dangerous than most people realize. I'm on edge more with her going to work than I am in combat. It's crazy and people are even crazier these days. I appreciate the thanks and we definitely do what we do because we are passionate about keeping our country and communities safe. Job security doesn't hurt either. Well, if your state isn't defunding Police, that is.
