I'm not even reading the other comments - because you echoed my first reaction - I have trouble admitting when I accept things I should not because I'm in a hurry or my emotions are clouding my logic. I accepted some things about ours that - yeah, being human, I complained about later but honestly, I DID make the choice, I DID decide and I DID sign the papers and accept delivery. Had I been less emotional about getting into a JT as soon as I could, I could have saved another 2 or 3 grand and had a couple of options I MISSED because I got in a hurry.
Understandable.. I was parked at a hotel with cameras. The jeep with the hardtop next to me didn't get broken into. Only two vehicles that got broken into was my gladiator and a convertible Sebring. If they would have busted out a window, my insurance would have covered it because it would be less than my deductible and I'd be less mad, I think... Not mad that they broke into the Jeep, more mad that I was a, pun intended, soft target.
My wife will only leave stuff of any value at all in a vehicle if it can't be seen and isn't in the usual places. Stuff tucked up into places only we know about. She won't leave her phone or any money in the console or glove box. I have suggested that she simply stick her phone or other stuff in the console or glove box - and I get "this look" back at me that tells me it was a dumb idea. And - she's a women with intuition and thinks differently than many folks. She's had a really really rough life when younger, so I acccept her thinking on some of this stuff.
I think this is where I'm at... I don't think they NEED to.. I think they should. I've shown repeated loyalty to their brand for years and never ever had any issues. This is my first issue, I wish it was just taken into greater consideration.
Not concerned about them actually getting in.. there was nothing valuable in there. They cut it because it was the hidden spot from the cameras.. I shouldn't have "combat parked". They never even tried to open my door, because of they had, they'd see that it wasn't locked.
You got that right. More than one employee where I work said their vehicle was broken into and notebook computer, digital dictation devices, whatever, were stolen. Any hope of recovery? cops try not to laugh if you ask......... only if there's a rash in an area and they can find perps. But the ones and twos break-ins, no way. Ain't gonna happen unless you are VERY lucky.
And I can see the logic in it.. I just think that my request isn't out of the question. They wouldn't be at a loss when comparing to me just waiting indefinitely. I could have just ate it and accepted whatever rain damage was gonna come my way for the next few months.. maybe I could have requested a refund and bought a takeoff from somebody for less... No.. I did what I had to do to secure my vehicle from the elements and future cuts since I didn't even have an expected date to received my top... I guess my emotions are getting the best of me in this situation.. but again.. I do understand that they don't have to do anything.. I think they can and should be willing.. but obviously I'm biased to my opinion
Ironically my wife is a police officer and told me the police report won't do anything but help with the insurance claim ... The only change I had of getting finger prints would have been from the part they cut off but they took it with them through the woods...
Our '88 YJ soft top didn't even HAVE locks on the doors - AMC figured it was a waste of money since the tops could be "bypassed" so easily...
At least you are honest and see multiple angles.
By that time it had MOPAR decals on it. My 87 did - funny to see some still say AMC and others clearly said "Chrysler Corporation" with the pentastar logo.

I'm not sensitive. And in general I'm not bothered by opinions. I am a part of the forum because in general, all the Jeep forums I'm a member of have great people with great insight and advice. I don't always agree but I'm open to different perspectives. I know that if it's something I'm passionate about or heavily biased toward, I'll be a bit more stubborn with... Like this case.. but like everything, I'll get over it.
Thank you. We were all teens at one point and I'm sure many of us did questionable things, but they do a job far more dangerous than most people realize. I'm on edge more with her going to work than I am in combat. It's crazy and people are even crazier these days. I appreciate the thanks and we definitely do what we do because we are passionate about keeping our country and communities safe. Job security doesn't hurt either. Well, if your state isn't defunding Police, that is.
