One year to the day that I bought my first Jeep, Gobi became available. Lets be clear about this: there is no color that fits a Jeep as well as Gobi does! My plan was to trade in my firecracker red JT if Gobi ever became available again, only reason I would ever trade in my beautiful Rosalita. I didn't expect Gobi to come back so soon, however this should not be a problem as Jeeps hold their value so well and it seems everyone on this forum gets great offers. Yesterday I went fishing for offers on my 2021 well loaded Sport S with 8,500 miles and an original MSRP of $48,050. So lets take a look at my offers:
Carvana $32,054
Kelly Blue Book $36,819
Vroom $37,960
Autolenders $39,2000 -estimate

OK so I didn't pay MSRP for my JT, got it from Tri-City Jeep at 6% under in voice. Still some real lowballing going on here. So lets look at my loaded Sport S one year later:
2021 $48,050
2022 $52, 725
That's a $4,675 price increase for the next model year with the same options. Also got $2,000 in incentives for the 2021, Jeep currently has no cash offers for 2022 models. Would also have to pay sales tax 6.25 % in New Jersey and dealer fees again. When I tally up the numbers, selling my JT and ordering a new Gobi will set me back about $12,000 + and in return I get Gobi, proximity doors (not by choice, Jeep shenanigans shuffle Popular equipment & technology packages) and the new model year.
Rosie and I will just celebrate her birthday and continue our adventures together...

No offense but you got both ripped off and taken advantage of.

I’m not offended. How did I get ripped off and taken advantage of?

Remember that right now in this crazy time your sell price (up to $39k) is massively inflated due to used car prices. Any other normal time in history you'd be getting quite a bit less. Honestly right now you're looking at probably the lowest delta you'll ever see. My Sport S w/Max Tow (yes that makes a difference on price) is seeing offers around $40k-$42k. Sticker was $48k. Typically, trading in 1 vehicle, especially 1 that isn't paid off, isn't a money making proposition. Also keep in mind, that usually if you order 1 you can get 4-8% below invoice. Be smart and shop around.

Have you taken your 2021 to an actual dealer? I found the online prices and KBB are not representative of the used car market. When I traded in my 2018 JLUR I was offered something like $36k from Carmax and KBB showed it at $37k. I took it to the dealer and was offered $42k on the spot. Negotiated to $43,500... I paid $43,400 (after taxes) when I bought it in 2018.

I’m not looking to make a profit, just get Gobi at a reasonless loss. Number crunches are at below invoice pricing for the 2022. I took my JT to a dealer that was interested a few months ago & they offered me $42,000. At the time vroom was also offering & 42,000. I suspect the dealer will throw me an offer similar to Vrooms current one.

They've priced me out too. Was just talking about this in another thread.

Building a 2022 Willys exactly like I want with only these two changes from my 2021 Willys.

Deleting 8.4 Audio group
Adding Selec-Trac

$4010 increase. And the only real difference outside of the two changes I made is the addition of proximity locks in the Technology Package.

MSRP on my 2021 was $49,725. I bought it for $44,220. That was 5% under invoice. Deals like that aren't easily had now.

Have you checked KBB to see what the equivalent Jeep in a 2020 would price out to? I would be curious to see what the "value" of one model year is, since that is something you would gain.

The value of one model year doesn’t matter to me: I either keep my current gladiator forever or I’ll get a 2022 Gobi & keep it forever...

the used car market definitely leveled off/softened, and new cars have inflated pricing

I think the timeframe when I did my deal (sold 2020, bought 2021) about 3 months ago was the peak time to do so (lowest delta between used car and new car)

It might not matter to you, but it matters in the calculus of finding a value. You're comparing a 2021 to a 2022, and that model year difference, even if the Jeep is the same, has a value.
