for what most Jeeps do off road the low rpm torgue is just fine . In most case's if maintained will see 250,000 miles. Fact remains it only needed 4 & 5speeds to do it . My 99 TJ is still my daily driver.

Yeah, they aren’t nearly as good of engines as Jeep fan bois try to make them out to be.
Depends on the year and the head. The cracking head was fixed, problems resolved. It was the 0331 head and was fixed with the 0331 TUPY head.
There were multiple head designs used over the years. My experience is that only the pre-TUPY 0331 head had issues.

Like anything else, there were issues in certain years with certain parts.
We can say the same about the 3.6 - cracked heads, bad cams, whatever.

It would probably fit, but nobody in their right mind would do it. There are so many better swap candidates.
Today there are better options - but me being me - I'd find a good I6 just as a challenge. The 4.0 can crank 800 HP. Even without drastic measures they've been doing 400 and 500 HP.
But I'd take a modern version for multiple reasons.
Any one can put in a v8 and have power, that's a belly-button cop-out thing. Like the classic cars, any maroon can drop an LS in a 1970 Camaro - yawn yawn. Who cares.
But beat the pant off the V8s with a sleeper build I6 and you've done something.
Boring talk of hemi this and hemi that....... anyone can do it. What's the big deal about a turn-key system. Build something different and make it your own.

Specifically something like the Jeep 4.6L 270 HP EFI Turnkey Engine

Could it fit in the engine bay? and allow for all the other necessary components (including the larger alternator, cooling systems, etc)? I can't find any specifications on dimensions of the 3.6L Pentastar
might want to wait for the incline 6 bi-turbo hurricane crate motors

I'm not sure what a "bois" is... seriously. But they are pretty darn good engines.
Don't have to tell me twice... I've owned a few of them, never ever had one fail. Not a single engine failure of any type of the many I've owned.

This is how I retrofit engines ??

this engine has been around in some form or another since 1940's. They are nearly bullet proof. The bad head span was minimal Not all cracked and mine easily had 100k when it happened. My TJ, when I got it, was abused and i drove it for a year before it cracked.

I like the V8 sound.

I'm all about weird swaps. I swapped a 4.7L V8 in to a TJ.
