I mean, the fact that inflation has robbed the dollar of it's value is also true.

But it's very easy to access credit now, in the form of buy now pay later, and foolish people do.
Inflation is one thing…..... It truly hurts those who live by the bare minimum. Bare minimum = folks who are homeless or barely not-homeless, or barely making rent, no car, no phone, etc.

For the rest….. Inflation cuts into their foolish spending routines. It’s too easy to get and use credit (as you mentioned). Too hard to give up that foolish spending and too easy to complain about not having enough to pay for the necessities.

It drives me crazy seeing people in SUV’s, dressed nice, with cell phone in hand…. pull up in line at a food panty to collect free food.

It drives me crazy to know that as a degreed engineer married to a RN I have about 28% less effective household income per year than the same job titles in 1990 did.

That's a real thing brought by decades of deficit spending and printing money to cover it. A very real tax I'm paying. Whether I would have used the money foolishly or not, I'm being robbed.

Pretty common around here too.

The wife asked a coworker once why she kept going to a food bank when she clearly didn't need it. The response was, "why not, it's free".

🙄 Sooo messed up……. And they complain ”I‘m not making enough $$”

Well, no shit …..…

Find yourself some Ramon noodles and a cheap microwave and save yourself $10,400 a year (guesstimating $200 a week in door dash - and I’m sure they’re spending more than that on useless wasteful shit🙄). And lets not start talking about how many people buy expensive coffee at Starbucks.
The coffee thing at Starbucks gets me fired up. @Janster back in a day a coffee place sold coffee to travelers . Now they sell it to people who live right down the road everyday in their way to work.
I have the solution it's called a coffee thermos. And a coffee pot .
Buying Starbucks is for show & tell.
See my coffee supply and yes it's Arabica and yes it's great.i aint drinking swill.

We aren't rich by a long shot, but I'm glad we are the folks that occasionally go through the pantry and pick out things to leave in the blessing box at the church near the house, than picking up food boxes we don't need.

A coworker of mine was going out to lunch everyday at work. Typically four days a week since we were usually gone by lunch on Friday.

Anyway, being that i knew where he would go, I figured he was spending $15-18/day on lunch. I was like bro you're plowing through up to $300/month in lunch alone.

Well after enough of that he started bringing lunch everyday - but he got tired of ham sandwiches and went back eating out 😂

I said you guys don't meal prep? He's like meal what? Most our leftovers go in the dumpster.

Can't hide money I guess 😄

Now, I do allow myself one lunch a week away from the office, and one breakfast a week on the way in - but I usually end up only doing lunch and breakfast three times each in a month, at most.

My some day wife is a hell of a suzy home maker, and I'm a pretty good cook myself - and we live 20 minutes from town - so we lean on a lot of 'money saving' tactics. Cooking in, meal prepping, thrifting, re-claiming furniture, etc.
I eat lunch out everyday because I'm cheap and I look for and find deals. 😆

You can some pretty good deals or free stuff when you order through their apps. I had a free sub from Firehouse yesterday.

For sure, and if it works for someone - by all means.

I'm a stubborn mule and don't want more apps on my phone and don't buy much fast food anyway. My girlfriend though, she is all about that (getting all the app deals and such), more power to her.

When I do lunch at work, it's usually the little mexican joint down the road.

Breakfast is usually the new Bojangles they built at the end of our road. Biscuit, tater rounds, and an iced coffee for $8 and change.

I work secluded and away from many places , so I have to bring something everyday. Today a pack of tuna and 2 protein bars.

Note not political it both sides...
When I went A.D. Army my pay was $635.00 a month. PVT/E-1 at SPC-4/E-4 (87-89) I was around $900.00 with C.O.L.A. in Germany. 89-91. CPL/E-4 to SGT/E-5 91-95 $1200.00-1500.00 (latter with C.O.LA.) I figured out that to be "making the same amount in purchase power " I would have to be promoted to MSG-1SGT / E-8 by 2007. Dollars of pay vs purchase power. 1991-1995 1 Oz. silver was $4.50-5.50, gold around $1000.00 a Oz. Silver spot price lately $80-85 a Oz. Gold spot price currently $4619.50 a Oz. In 2023 about $2000.00 a Oz. Silver was less than half of current price.
My Comanche brand new ordered from Jeep in 1991 around $15000.00, my 05 Wrangler Unlimited in 05 $29000.00 in Jan 2020 my JT around $46k.
Handing $$$$ out to the world and scamers without any control has gutted the dollar. Along with Congress spending money like a drunk sailor on port liberty.
In 2021, I was flat out sick of working for half of my pay to be stolen from me in taxes... Being single, my gross pay was around 75k take home afterwards not even 40k (2020-2023)
Back O.T: (I typed up several paragraphs I started to add in some stuff I saw. )
On a different thread of similar topic, I posted on my surfing Ebay, bad rabbit hole... started looking at Jeep parts and drifted over to JT parts side away from my other Jeeps stuff. Started looking on motors and transmissions then got a "something you might be interested in" link. 5.7 crate motor new was about $4000.00 almost same price as 3.6 out of wrecks. 😳

I keep a can of Chef Boyardee in a cabinet for when I forget to bring anything and feel to cheap to leave the office.

Or when I feel like disgusting my coworkers - cause I just raw dog it out the can.
