So, it was a balmy 9 degrees this morning and around 10 AM it'd warmed nicely to around 12 degrees.

So, I started my Gladiator (remote start) and let her warm up. Mind you I haven't driven her for about three days but still...

So went out to drive off and, lo-and-behold, a nice crack running from the bottom (centered on the steering wheel) towards the passenger side, up to about 5" from the bottom and about 7" or so, long.

Wasn't there before.

So, I'm guessing that the temperature difference between the glass, outside temp, and the defrost, and it found a weak point, and there it went.

I've had her for around 4 1/2 years now and hadn't even had a chip.

First time fer everthang ☹ ☹ ☹

Yup. My son’s JL soft top did the same thing. Outside over night in significantly sub zero and turning on the defroster cost a new windshield.

I had one crack in 55 degree weather . Nothing hit the windshield but it sounded like an explosion when it broke. It broke bottom dead center under the wiper blade and hooked left. Took it to the dealer...still under warranty...and showed them. They couldn't explain what happened since there wasn't a chip point. They took pictures of it and sent it to jeep. Got a new windshield for free. They said the gorilla glass isn't holding up well. I feel that since the windshield is glued in without any stress relief like a rubber seal, any twist on the windshield frame will cause a bind and then crack the glass. Just my opinion.

Check your inbox.
I know someone who's had a cracked windshield for 2 years. Because they know as soon as it gets replaced it'll get cracked again.

Mine cracked not too long ago. It bled more last week when we dropped temperatures. I have decided I am going to ride it out for now and worry about it when it warms up.

Last week I noticed a 1/2" dia. spiderweb on the bottom right hand corner.
Right on the Jeep insignia.
I have to get it repaired before it grows.

Under 3 years and around 20k miles on it, my gladiator experienced last mild-snow of this season (hoping no more snow coming) 2-days ago in NY state…. And here I witness my windshield go a cracking just next to the windshield vents. I had cleared the ice just moments ago and was not expecting this while my soft-roof truck was getting warmed up for my next trip.

I joined last week... Stone cracked my windshield on the NJ Parkway. I was literally on my way to get my windshield tinted (70% just for heat and UV rays), while my friend was tinting it, he said did you know your windshield jas this big chip. I didn't notice it wjen it happened because it was raining on the way there.

Got the chip filed in the next day. Hopefully it hold up for awhile...

Don’t think your window replacement is free from insurance companies. Both Gieco and USAA tagged the claims during renewals.

Is the crack caused by defrosting covered under 3-year/36000 basic warranty coverage that comes with the new JT?

I actually feel lucky it took me so long. I went around 45k with just a tiny chip till i finally got a real crack. it’s not right in my line of sight so I’m not even going to bother getting it fixed unless it gets worse.

None of your business :)
I'm currently driving a overland rental and it's already on its 2nd set of windshield and already been chipped!!

side topic...I drove down to the bay today to attend a funeral and noticed a Tesla pulled over to the emergency lane and another huge construction truck in front. Then noticed the Tesla's windshield looked like someone had emptied a shotgun round on it !! I'm thinking the Tesla was following too close and the rocks were splattering behind and hit the freeway and bounced directly on the windshield.

I'm teaching my high school kids driving currently and this is one point I emphasize all the time..do NOT follow big rigs or bigger construction vehicles..not just for safety and blind spots but no telling when a pea sized pebble may fall off the load and ricochet on the windshield!
