Imagine putting up with a situation where you could lose a valve, wipe the bearings or lose a cam lobe. If it starts it might not idle less than 1500 and if it did it would stink of fuel. Who didn't love the insanity of high output big blocks. Small blocks were better but only just.

I'd honestly take todays always start engines that can go the distance even if it means I'm not crankibg out 1 horse per cube.
Well said.

Well I put on my MBRP exhaust this weekend. I really like that it sits up super high. Listening to it on YouTube, it didn't sound too bad. But in real life? I've heard farts sound better. It is so weird how the same vehicle with the same exhausts can be so different. It definitely has a drone. I almost feel bad for those around me. Luckily for me I changed some of my speakers so I can drown it out with music.

If you want seat of the pants power gains add a pedal commander and make sure you are running the proper gears for your tire size.
My JT with 37s, 5.13 and a pedal commander has no problem chirping the tires hard from a dead stop and it pulls pretty damn strong for a stock v6. Guys who have effectively reduced their gear ratio to 3:1 by adding big tires on factory 3.73 gears shouldn’t wonder why their jeep feels gutless.

Honestly feel like an engine swap is the only option to get reliable horses in the gladiator. Thinking about doing a 5.7 or 6.4 yeah it’s pricey but will more than double your horses and torque

So... I recently wandered down this rabbit hole and crunched a lot of numbers on the topic and here's a shocker.

From a power density perspective, the pentastar is king in power HP/displacement and HP/mass. And what's worse, you can do a bastardized Brake Mean Effective Power calculation and find the 3.6 still wins. Yes the torque figure is not there and to our fire breathing V8 brains that means Booooooo! but, to paraphrase UKDieselPump (
) , the torque value isn't exactly what we feel it should be.

So to paraphrase UKDieselPump and the body of work that is Richard Holdener, if the engine makes a very large unit torque per revolution at say 2000rpm versus an engine that makes half the torque but spins twice as fast, the same total work has been done and the latter engine is suffering under less load because it's (the work) is made up in gearing.

Now, does a high rev low torque engine feel like we should expext on the street or trail compared to older 4.0/258 or V8 powered rigs? No, not at all , feels like its missing a cylinder or two. Adding in larger wheel and tires won't help and saddling it down with all the swag is doing to favors.

Boosting the 3.6 is the solution to recover drivetrain and chassis losses and gearing is the solution to recover the pep in the step. The hidden costs of the V8 swap of any flavor is going to be mass and a lot of it, 2 more cylinders with of everything including fluids plus the transmission (in my case going from MT to AT) is hundreds of phantom pounds, they are real bybthe added power of the V8 is masking them. IMHO if you were to boost the 3.6 to the torque input limit of the manual and added gearing to meet or beat the 60 foot and 0-60of stock, the uninitiated would swear you had a healthy v8 under there.

As for sounds, the 3.6 only sounds good from 3k up, has no chop or brap and with no exhaust flow control it feels gutless and flabby. I had to chop out my stock muffler to fit a winch in and snagged one of those hi clearence street thunder kits, needed to add a little glasspack back into control the drone and aid a hair of flow control to keep velocity up. Still not good but still no v8 brumble.

I traded a '21 Sierra AT4 3.0 Duramax for my Willy's for reasons that are irrelevant to the conversation and nothing to do with the Sierra reliability or performance. I loved the truck but had to make some changes. The Sierra generated 200 lbs. more of torque than the 3.6 and slightly less horse power, 277HP/460TQ. With that being said, I feel like 3.6 is more than adequate. It drives well and has power to merge or pass, etc. I even chirped the tires and it has a 3.73. I haven't towed anything yet and I am sure I will miss the Sierra when I do, but for the 98% of the time that I will not be towing, the 3.6 will do just fine. As far as an aftermarket exhaust system, I wouldn't bother, for sound, just replace the suitcase middle muffler with a straight pipe. Should sound nice and no drone as reported by people who have done it. I will be doing this to mine.

I took a look at some of the available systems and was a bit surprised to see that most don’t even post dyno gains. The ones that do claim increases say “up to 5 hp and 5 tq. Seems like a huge waste of $$ to me.

anyone get better increases from a cat back system?

am I missing something here?
AGREE 100% - It amazes me when you see a product for sale claiming "X" benefit, but there's NO proof or mention of the amount of benefit. Rediculous. I actually been looking around for an exhaust more for the sound.......AWE exhaust sound badass for a 6 cylinder Jeep.

I just went from a custom Spintech exhaust dumped before the rear axle to a Corsa Sport exhaust that dumps by the spare tire.

It does not have as good of a tone as my Spintech does but still sounds decent. Quiet at idle and cruising speeds but gets pretty loud wide open.

Speaking of claiming benefits - this is the first exhaust I have ever had that actually does not drone...at all!

Cheers

Mopar gets a lot from that tiny 220 cubic inch engine.

I have the same exhaust but I have the drivers side dump and love it :)

Question for you...does your upshift at full throttle sound like shit?

The BRRAAAAAP on full throttle upshifts sounds like total dogshit and I do not recall it being this bad when first installed. It is extremely loud BRAAAAP, very hollow, thin, and tinny. My wife, who has zero sense of vehicles and modifications in general made a comment when she heard that..."is that normal??!?" Keep in mind she rode in my Jeep plenty of times with my previous exhaust that was much louder all the time but damn did the upshift BRAAAP sound good on it.

I am thinking I have a significant exhaust leak around the factory clamp mating the factory exhaust to the Corsa. It is a poorly designed clamp to begin with: https://www.quadratec.com/p/mopar/m...m_medium=organic&utm_campaign=organicshopping

Corsa exhaust sounds pretty good otherwise and again...ZERO drone, which I am happy about. Hopefully this weekend I will be going through with some copper RTV gasket maker on each of the connections to seal it up and will report back. Worst case I am reaching out to Corsa to see if I can buy just the resonator section that comes on their Touring exhaust.

Cheers

Unless you are putting a full exhaust on a performance vehicle, which the JT is not, there's rarely any gain in performance. With that being said, I had the AWE system on my previous ram and it was amazing and the build quality is top notch. I personally would never but an exhaust on a V6 because it will never sound as good as a V8 but I know many have on this forum.

When I bought mine in 2020 I read that the engineers had gotten the most power they could out of the intake / exhaust. That is why you only change the amount of noise and barely any power from swapping either or both. My 3.6 gladiator is still faster and more powerful than my poor abused 4 cylinder squirrel 2.5 that was in my 1999 with 32" tires lol!

Mine sounds great and I installed mine with the factory clamp and it sealed properly with no leaks.

However the same engine in the Dodge Challenger puts out 303HP and 268 #/ft of torque so why can’t we have the same in the Glad…
This.
