I didn't ask Shawn (AEV) why he said they no longer support its use. I will though in our next conversation. This week is another two weeks gone by.

I think the Sy-Klone is a great piece of gear. Functionally it's amazing at keeping dirt and debris out of the intake.. Design is well tested.

I think this is one and one part , because jeep is killing the diesel. So is a issue of demand and supply, AEV don’t want to stock with some parts they can’t move.
Jeep is not killing the ecodiesel in the JT-- it is on stop sale bc of the fuel pump issue recall

Is this a new reason that they're not recommending it, or is it the same initial reason? When the snorkel first went on sale they didn't recommend the Sy-Klone because they hadn't tested it. Which is ironic, because it would seem they didn't do adequate testing on the scoop either.

When I was one of the first to install the snorkel and report the code issue to them they sold me one of the Sy-Klones at cost to test. I already had it on order from another vendor and canceled that order to get the discounted one from AEV. It's been problem free for me, and others, so I'm wondering if this is anything new.

The Sy-Klone filter can be had for under $200 from other vendors with a coupon code. Still pricy, I will not doubt that one bit. But for a lot of us the pre-filter was the plan all along so it was always baked into the price.

I do agree there should be a fix, to leave anybody hanging is unacceptable. I hadn't realized the PCM fix was limited to one model year. I'm a big fan of AEV but this is very disappointing.

As for the looks, that's definitely subjective. But the Sy-Klone pre-filter is industry proven and is objectively functional. I was just in the Outer Banks and all the diesel tractors and trucks clearing the dunes off the road: Sy-Klone equipped.
Anyone calling the pre-filter “the mushroom top” doesn’t seem to be the most reliable source of information. He doesn’t seem to know what he’s talking about. I went to Oregon in March with a bunch of the AEV guys and had my snorkel and “mushroom top” on it. They all saw it and we all talked about it. Never once was it brought up that it wasn’t recommended to not be used with their snorkel. 8k miles on mine and without one CEL. I’ve ran it in every type of weather condition. This has been addressed so many times on this thread. I guess people forget to read before making statements. The guys that have been running this setup since the beginning know it works and know the Sy-klone is the reason why.

Yeah it's clear those of us running it have as much or more testing with the Sy-Klone under our belt than AEV has. I'm also at about 8k miles since installation, I believe. Rain, snow, -25°f to 95°f, towing 6500 lbs. Trouble free. And the cone filter in my intake looks as clean as the day I installed it.

Not recommending something is a lot different than advising against. And I suspect after this fiasco AEV will be more likely than ever to not recommend a lot of things.

My coworker lives near me. Same commute daily. Both EcoD Rubi JTs, both on 37s. I carry more weight, spare, rack, winch. He has a stock intake. I consistently get 1-1.5 mpg better than him. I think it probably has more to do with driving style than the intake setup but it certainly doesn't point to my rig struggling for air.

I'm going to stop replying to people asking for the answer to their question in the thread containing the answers to their questions.

Sorry If I wasn't clear.

I never said Sy-Klone didn't work. Clearly it does. As far as "reliable source"
I suggested people wanting to run this snorkel contact Shawn in AEV Customer Service; This is who told me directly, they no longer recommended the Sy-Klone. They haven't tested it. Easy phone call.

The as purchased AEV diesel snorkel design doesn't work; causes CEL code; AEV unable to fix this issue so far. As per Shawn yesterday there will not be a software fix. EPA issue. They are working on a way to modify the snorkel head.

Hopefully this is clear and simple for some to understand. Perhaps in my frustration of this issue going so long without an AEV resolution came through in my posts, if so I apologize if I created any confusion.

Interesting, looks like now the diesel snorkel includes the Sy-Klone

https://www.aev-conversions.com/product/jl-gladiator-snorkel/

“The Snorkel Kit for gasoline/CRD engines includes a standard Air Ram Inlet, the 3.0L EcoDiesel kit includes a self-cleaning pre-filter. There are a number of aftermarket pre-filter options on the market for non-EcoDiesel customers who travel in severe environments with high dust, sand, or silt.”

But did “Shawn” at AEV tell you this was ok? Since “Shawn” is the expert and only person at AEV. Pre-Filter works great. AEV has spoken to multiple of us, but we don’t need to speak to “Shawn” to tell you that it works. Real world experience speaks for itself. Anyone wanting to run the snorkel just get the pre-filter and call it a day. ??
