Did this exact thing to my tailgate last month. So far im pretty happy with it. I did not use the self tapping screws it came with to secure the box, instead I did rivets. Personal preference.

Could the space hold a camp stove?

Cool idea, but for the price. . .and having to permanently alter the tailgate - nope.

Could hold all the stuff they show in a small backpack tied to one of the seats if you absolutely had nowhere else in the whole truck to put it.

Plus the repetition of opening and closing that extra weight on the hinges, idk, seems like it'd create a failure point that otherwise wouldn't be there. (and yes, I know the tailgate is made to hold 300lbs or whatever, but static load and dynamic load are two different things)

I am also curious if the space would be big enough for a camp stove.

Based only on the pictures it looks like there is a fairly large step up or flange bend to the edge closest to the bed. It looks like this would make anything you want to slide out of the bed catch on it. Since you have it, could you comment on is that just the way the photos look or does it actually get in the way? Also, how did you wire in the lights, to the tailgate wiring or run new wires? Thanks!

I would comment to the video on this question, they provide enough wire to run to the battery. Not knowing how or if constant power is to the tail lights or not but I’d assume there isn’t except when brake peddle is activated or running lights are on. I’d run it to the battery.

I did take the measurements: 3" deep 9" wide 13.10" long. hope that helps you. there are two small access panels inside as well to get to the linkage and the backup camera.

the flange hasnt hindered anything i have done yet and am able to slide stuff in and out of the bed.
The lights are wired to the battery, the box has a magnetic switch to turn it off when the box is closed, they also include a rocker switch if you prefer to do it that way. the wire runs down the passanger side, along the frame above the spare tire and then goes through into the gate where the factory wiring is.

I put bed use items in mine, cargo straps, bungee cords etc that i use in the bed. i am working a rear seat delete with platform storage for my tools etc making the most use of space for my needs and keep the bed as empty as possible. need bed space for firewood, animals (i am a hunter). i didnt like taking my tool box out of the bed every time i needed to do a home depot run etc. so im configuring my truck to suit the way i do things.
