Hi All,

I purchased a new '23 Gladiator last month just before Thanksgiving. The dealer only gave me one key. They said to look around inside and that a second key should be in there somewhere. I've looked everywhere and can't find one. I'm wondering how many keys people are getting now with new Jeeps? I looked through the forums and found that back in '21 people were typically only getting one key due to the chip shortages. I would think we'd be over that by now.

I E-mailed my dealer about a second key and got crickets (unfortunately, not surprising).

You should have received two keys. Replacement cost is around $200, and they have to be special ordered.
You shouldn't have taken delivery without a written IOU for the missing FOB.

My Toyota dealer tried pulling this on me with my Tacoma. They said I needed to come back for the second key due to a parts shortage. Then when I came back later, they tried to charge me the $200 ? I eventually got my key after it was clear that I wasn’t leaving without it.

Well, that’s an issue I wouldn’t have expected with any purchase from a dealer, let alone being a new vehicle. I have a new truck coming in very shortly and will now know better than signing any papers without the key issue being discussed up front.

Ha man the dealership I bought my truck from did everything they could to pull one fast one after the other. They did get me on the warranty in a clever way when dealing with all the paper work by having their warranty instead of the Mopar Warranty. When discussing the warranty I had assumed it was the Mopar Jeep Warranty and come to find out years later it was the Auto Nation Warranty that I purchased.

I feel lucky. I bought a used. '21 Willys and it came with 3 fobs. Two were the three button ones to include the remote start, while the third was a two button.

12/6/23

Since my dealer hasn’t been very communicative I went down there today, an 80 mile round trip. None of the people I spoke with when I bought the truck were on this afternoon but another dealer was very helpful. He looked around for the key and found one that was not where it should be but it didn’t have the remote start button.

He offered to have one cut and programmed while I wait and that the correct key would need to be ordered and it would take about 2 weeks to come in. I decided to wait for the correct key.

He did mention that they still occasionally get Jeeps in that only have one key. I verified with “helpful salesman” that there would be no charge for the key. I’ll post an update when I hear back that my new key is in.

You should have received 2 key fobs. I bought a '23 Mojave and received both. Your dealer owes you a matching key fob!

I have a 21' with 2 keys. The replacements are like 500.00 if you want another or need a 2nd one.

Bought mine used and it only came with one fob. Bought a cheap one on amazon, had it cut and programmed locally. then threw it in an aftermarket case and leave my spendy factory fob at home.

After a month and a half of delays, the most recent of which were self induced, I finally got the second key for my Gladiator. I'm suspecting the dealership finally found the second factory key since when I picked it up no programming was required on the truck and the handwriting on the tag matched the handwriting on the tag of the original key.

I'm very glad there was no scam or extortion involved although the dealer could have been more communicative. They never reached out to me about the key. I always had to call them.

Glad to hear they found it.

It amazes me how dealerships drop you like leper once the deal is done and you drive off. Had you been sitting in the finance office short of signing the deal on contingent of them getting you the 2nd key , they would have shit that key pretty quick.
