LED Headlight reflective blindness in Heavy snow

I live along the coastal mountains of BC Canada. I can tell you this much, we get tons of heavy wet snow and it sucks with LED headlights. My new JT and wifes brand new bronco both ice up. Until manufacturers heat the lenses and have it automatically activate at say 5 degrees celsius or less, it will continue to be an issue. So much so Im looking at halogen sae legal amber fog lights.

If I recall they have three versions - last year I was considering their better level in yellow, may still as factory fogs aren't great.
Which version do you have? Sport/Pro/Max?

That picture is the sports, I also have pros, but only use those off road or on country roads.

This is actually why I ordered the Oracle heated headlights. I have JW speakers on my JK that are heated and I love them. Since Oracle is the only one offering them currently I had to jump on it in hopes they arrive in time for this years winter lol

I just installed the same sport version of the Diode Dynamic amber fog lights this weekend. What a difference they make over the factory halogen fog lights. And the color is not as harsh as the factory LED's I had in my JKU. Just need to replace the headlights now.

What do you think about amber SAE approved lights on the cowl/A pillar mount as opposed to the bumper? Little more light effective wide/long? Or loses effectiveness?

The light source that is more in line with your eye level will reflect more light straight back. Higher will push light into holes and dips more and you will loose more defined road imperfections lower and the contrast and lack of reflection will provide the best information. Just imagine a dark room and your trying to find something you dropped. If you turn on the room light it will be harder to find than if you use a flashlight on the floor and then you will see all the shadows of all the debris on the ground. Low lights work like that on the road too.

One thing I forgot to mention in regard to driving in blinding snow that helps me tremendously.
Quality yellow eye glasses.
Key word….quality.
Getting hammered with these exact conditions right now.

Has anyone experienced reflective blindness while driving in heavy snow? This is the first of 5 Jeep Gladiator/Wrangler style with the LED lights and I can not remembering ever experiencing the reflective blindness where I couldn’t identify the road markings or road edge at night. I ended up finishing trip with just fog lights. Head light height is within specs and HI beams were off.

Was out in it last night going up the summit on highway 93 in Alberta toward Radium, BC. We had a winter storm and yes, the snow was blinding and the fog lights filled in with snow. Clearing them out proved pointless,..they just filled in immediately

This will happen yes. Even with Halogeon lights, albeit not as much it will still happen due to the recessed nature of the Jeeps lights.

When I was going to drive to Montana and stay for a bit to get my GFC, I made sure to install my LP4 (yellow) Aux lights on my bumper for a just in case snow storm, as well as pretreating Headlights/fogs with Rain-x.

The LP4's SHOULD have enough heat to not be effected by snow all too much. Still waiting on that first snow to confirm this lol.

I had the heated TruckLites on my JKUR. Never had an ice-up in winter.
Was hoping Jeep did something with the stock LEDs to keep them ice-free, but it looks like I might have to swap them out if they get bad enough.
I'll wait til after my first winter with this JTR before I make any decisions.

I don't remember what brand these were, but I'm pretty sure JW Speaker. Ice happens. This was on a JK, but depending on where you travel/live ice will happen.

Those look like Trucklite/Rigid 7” LEDs. Love that they have heated options now. I had them on my JK but I was unimpressed with the light pattern on low beam

Buy Amber lights, switch them on and turn off the headlights.

Theoretically, would putting 7-in headlights in the 9-in hole allow air to pass around the headlights, thus not trapping the snow?

Driven in plenty of snow over the last 2 winters and now getting into the next. I've never had the issue of not being able to see the road. The snow is typically dry here though so it also doesn't build up heavily on vehicles while driving. Speaking of snow/ice build up, I've had many more issues with the ice building up on the windshield than I have had on the headlights. The LED headlights have been the least of my concerns while owning this truck.
