As with other fluids the manufacture service interval may not be in the owners best interest. After going down another rabbit hole the last few weeks I thought I would create a spot for talking specifically about the coolant for our Ecodiesel.

Recently it’s come to my attention that the OEM coolant is becoming very acidic in less than two years and in some cases the OEM coolant coming out of the bottle is right at base line. After talking with EOC they are recommending replacing with Zerex Red or Yellow coolant as it is showing good results ( I asked for more information on results and will update when I receive it).

OAT coolant is technically supposed to last longer per the manufacture as its a 10 year/150k miles extended service coolant but this does not seem to be the case with testing as previously mentioned. So it may be a good idea if you haven't to check the condition of your coolant sooner rather than later.

My gladiator is coming up an a year old with 7K miles. I'll be doing a test on the original coolant here soon and will post the results. I'd like to know if anyone else has tested their coolant, how many miles/years you have on it and what results you are seeing with the OEM or aftermarket coolant if you have switched it out. Thanks!

I drove my first Gladiator for over 4.5 years and put 57k miles on it. Never had any issues with the cooling system, and did not add any coolant during that time.

Did you happen to test the coolant in the time you owned it?

Never had a reason to test it, didn't have any issues with the system. The color of the coolant visible in the tank never changed.

It is true that the Mopar coolant doesn't necessarily last for 10 years/150,000 miles in the EcoDiesel, however, it's not as bad as some make it out to be. I've taken several coolant analyses. Let me give you a few facts:

Straight from the Mopar prediluted 50/50 bottle, the coolant (virgin sample) has a pH of 8.5. For optimum protection, the pH value should be between 7.0 - 9.0.

Awesome thanks for posting that info! what testing kit did you use for reference?

Oil Analyzers has a Coolant Testing Kit, which is what I use. They partner with Polaris Labs.

I take coolant samples for a few different reasons. The biggest reason is to identify potential problems through early detection. So, I'm looking for head gasket issues, contamination, and testing the condition of the coolant. As long as my coolant is testing in the 7.0 - 8.5 pH range, then I'm happy. If you look at my chart, you'll see that the pH increased just by doing a simple drain and fill.

By the way, my first report was flagged for hardness. I figured the dealer used tap water when they did the EGR Cooler recall. That was about the only explanation for that contamination.

I don't want to add confusion to the coolant discussion, so I wanted to clarify the coolant specs. Mopar changed the coolant part number from MS-12106 to MS-90032. They are both interchangeable. To make it easy for me, I run the 50/50 premix.

Ph7.2 and 18hardness @36k 😬 makes me think I might just be worth flushing every 40-50k for peace of mind.
That's exactly where my 2020 Ram EcoDiesel tested at with 36,589 miles. 7.2 pH is still in the optimum protection range for an OAT coolant. There's nothing wrong with doing a flush. However, the drain and fill method works well, too. I'll most likely take the next sample at 50,000 miles.

I recently saw the EOC video as well around the coolant, and purchased some testing strips as my Gladiator has about 60,000 km on it. With the coolant being three years old, it tested around 5/5.5 pH level. Had a flush done and will check on the coolant in 6 months to see how its fairing.

what coolant did you replace it with? Just curious if you did a test on the new coolant to see what it’s showing from the bottle? Thanks for sharing!

Just the Mopar coolant, I had the flush done at the dealership as they were balancing my tires. Oddly enough the dealership in my area is 10x better at balancing large tires compared to the local 4x4 shops.

I unfortunately didn't test the bottle, but I'll pull a sample from the truck tomorrow. It's been less than a week so should be fine.

I picked up some test strips today and tested mine after seeing the EOC video. Hard to tell exactly on the strip. Looks to be between 6.8 and 7.2. So I'm calling it 7.0. I'll probably just order a couple jugs of the mopar and do a drain/fill. I don't know how to do a flush. Is there a valve on the bottom of the radiator?
