Has anyone experience getting the hood opened up by strangers. Possibly causing damage or theft?
I see there are ways to put locks on the hood.

I haven’t had that problem yet but the theft of Gladiators and Jeeps in general are getting more prevalent in my area. I’m looking into doing one as well. It can always be unlocked before you hit the trail if you’re concerned with getting under there quick while off-road. Just another step in the air down process.

I installed the Bolt lock and just had my door key copied so I didn’t have to cut the grill Since I have a leather case for my key fob this was more convenient

Had a set of locks on a 2013 Sahara I had and they were well I’d say more of a deterrent than anything. If a serious thief was wanting to steal your rig the latch locks or hood lock would likely be the easiest part of his day. They were more for the everyday part thieves who I would say are becoming more and more scarce. Stealing anything from under a hood takes work and this newer generation doesn’t like to work. Not saying that their isn’t a rare scenario of a forum member that had their rig vandalized reading this but likely they(locks) aren’t as much as a benefit as some might assume.

If you have a Tazer…. you can have the alarm go off when someone opens the hood. I was tempted to ‘enable’ this feature…..but I had some concerns and never really got any answers and was too lazy to ‘experiment’ with it at home.

Z Automotive told me, “It acts the same way as your OEM alarm system”
Is he referring to a Jeep installed alarm system? And/or is that the same thing as what’s installed from the factory? In my brain - two different things.
But, that’s the only answers I got from them.

The hood has plungers….to detect open/close, but I never really investigated what is what or why. I’ve never enabled that feature (thru the Tazer). And…I’ve never opened the hood after the JT was locked….so I don’t even know if anything would happen at all (from factory)??🤔

Maybe they could steal the auxiliary battery if they had some extra time some afternoon.
Except they'd steal it using wire cutters, a sawzall, and pry bars. The damage caused by thieves often exceeds the value of what they stole. This is why you don't lock the doors on a convertible.

I learned my lesson with my new '99 TJ soft top/half doors after I had it for about 2 months. It was parked in not the best area in Miami one night and since it was new, I locked it. I had nothing in it but about 3 hours later I came back and passenger window slashed and whatever was in the glove compartment (owners manual ?) on the floor.

Since that time, I have never locked any of my soft tops. Anyone can look inside, take some gum, some spare change or whatever, and be gone.

I don't believe they make a lock compatible with the trail cam, or I'd have installed one already.
