I’d rather not have a lift if I can help it…or maybe just an inch or so if necessary.

We overland quite a bit and the Rubicon’s suspension, particularly the rear is terrible. My wife is short and I’m not interested in a set of steps so here I am.

Has anyone found a set of springs that would allow for an additional 600 pounds of capacity? I know that I’ll need to upgrade the shocks and will be going with a set of Bilstein 5100’s.

Thanks!

AEV. But they say 2.5” fully loaded

i think synergy or dobinson will be your best bet here since you want to stay stock height.

Any springs that give you that much capacity with out a lift will be so stiff you'd feel like you are riding bump stops and the back end would be air born on even small bumps.

You can try sumos or air bags to help increase spring stiffness while not impacting unloaded weight as much

Just addressed the same issue you have.

Installed some ICON 1.5 springs/shocks in the rear. I don't have it loaded but expect at least a true 1.5" so looks like I'll be doing the front this weekend if the parts come in.

It rides MUCH better than the factory. (45k miles) Haven't hooked up the camper yet.

And this is why I have been waiting for OME to come to the rescue. I had my sport I bought in 2019 and got tired of waiting and ended up with a Mopar lift and level.

now I have a rubi and just added a 1” spacer to front, I don’t want to lift just don’t need all the rake either.

OME really helped me in my Tacoma and FJ days with loads I carried.

Yeah, air bags.

The only other spring I can think of would be synergy and their multiple rates.

Agree.

If you swap out springs. You will end up with too much rake. Air bags. you stiffen it up when you need it. And not put too much rake in it.

I have airbags and they are “OK” when fully loaded but when I’m just driving around about half loaded there is way too much bounce. I know it’s a combination of weak spring rates and shitty shocks.

I really like the AEV package as I believe it’s a true OEM quality package but the added ride height is going to be a challenge for my wife..

How much weight do you carry? Also, did you get longer sway bar end links?

Are you carrying the 600 lbs all of the time, or is that when you're loaded up?

I installed these on our Rubicon:

Timbren SES Rear

To handle the weight of our trailer since it is a little tongue heavy compared to the trailer weight itself. Dry weight 2600 lbs, dry tongue weight 350 lbs. They come with 1/2" spacers, which I used when I installed them. Also bought 1" spacers in case want the loaded ride to be firmer.

I have air bags - no bounce. If you have bounce, you have weak shocks.
Mine is fine. I keep 5 psi in the bags (independent lines to each) unless towing or hauling something heavy. When unloaded, I really can't tell a difference in the ride. It's even and smooth. In fact the other day my wife made the comment "this thing sure rides nice" after we'd been out shopping with it much of the day.

Since you already have airbags, what about just trying new shocks such as the bilstein 5100's mentioned in post 1? It might solve the ride issue.

I have had a pretty great experience with putting on sumo springs to my diesel JTR, pretty cheap in the grand scheme of things, and are far more comfortable than the standard bumpstops

I have the AEV kit I'm installing this weekend. I don't think my wife has any idea what's coming...lol. Good thing she doesn't ride in my rig too much on the daily.
