I have bad steering on mine to and I really wonder how they train these service departments to lie to people and tell them they don't have a problem with there steering. The service guy at my dealer said it looks like mine has a problem with the steering box but he can not get approval for a warranty repair on it or get paid to adjust it but I could do it myself. What a bunch of BS.

My has bad steering also, had it to the dealer 3 times. First time they said it was normal, second time they put all the tires up to 39 pounds and told me that fixed it, third time did a alignment and replaced steering stabilizer. I have a gladiator that my wife and daughter and also son in law will not drive at all, to hard to stay in there lane.
To me I think it just needs a updated steering box with out the dead spot. Wish Jeep cares would stay on top of this. Have all ready put 10,000 miles
on it, I like it but it steers like a 1968 Ford truck with 300,000 miles.

Keep waiting for Jeep to step up and fix this, hopefully soon !

I think I'm going to start sharing on all the forums that I visit about how bad the driving experance is when you have to drive a new vehicle that drives like a worn out one. I have 3 other vehicles with greater then 160000 miles and they drive great because I'm not trying to keep them out of a head on collision or out of a ditch. Boo Jeep for not addressing this problem before a lot of people have to get killed first.

Gladiator is a big paper weight

I was reading this thread and came to the last post.

https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/forum/threads/so-many-used-gladiators-on-the-market.28079/page-2

This reminded me that a loose steering box wears faster than a tight, properly adjusted one. This is all the more reason to check the adjustment if you have truly isolated the issue to the box.
So with all the steering box talk out there, this is the first time I've heard anyone say this. It makes a lot of sense.

Let us know how it goes, I'm in the same boat as you. I'm ready to move on to something else also. Plan on taking mine back next week again, still think it needs a steering box without all the play.

Adjusting the box only makes it feel heavier. Bought my new box from a dealer on line and changed it out myself. Only had 1000 miles on then. Handles much better

If you don't mind me asking what did you have to pay for the steering box and do you think it will fix the loose steering. I'm thinking of doing the same thing .. Sad part is I enjoy everything else about it.

Thanks

Almost $650 with few pints Mopar electric power steering fluid and core. Went from being hard to keep it in one lane with both hands to one hand driving without much effort. Not perfect but much better.

And it has a two year warranty.

let me get this straight... did it drive like crap before you did the RC lift or after??? If it’s after, your cause is the lift and need to get all the parts to make it better. If it was before, a bad lift will make it a ā€œdeath trapā€. IMO

This was not my experience at all. Steering doesn't feel any heavier and dead spot is almost completely gone.

I’m surprised that more owners have not taken this issue to the. Consumer advocate reporter at their local newspaper and TV station, along with reporting it to the federal safety board as suggested elsewhere in this thread. Having an aftermarket lift will probably be a factor that works against the owner as it is just an easy scape goat for manufacturing issues. But if you have the mopar lift installed by your dealer and it has the issue it at least keeps the focus on the dealer and FCA to address the problem. There is plenty of anecdotal evidence in this forum and I have heard from friends who have rented JTs with horrible steering so it shouldn’t be hard to put together a good story that will garner plenty of attention when it goes to press.
It’s tough to go up against the dealer one on one, but when you put the power of the press on your side you should be able to get better response from the dealer. Dealer looks a lot better if he provides a positive solution in the story than if he just gives the FCA salute (shrug ā€ā™‚ Of the shoulders). Safety on the highway for you, your family, and others driving near you should not be ignored. They will replace a $500 tonneau cover due to poor fit, but won’t replace a $600 steering box for safety?
