I’m only getting city 14.9 and highway 15.5. The advertised MPG is higher and I read about others on this forum getting higher as well.

I have about 4000 miles on my 22 Willys. No exterior, drivetrain or computer mods. Came with 32” Nittos. I try to be easy off the line.

Does anyone know possible causes? And is there any recourse with Jeep to get back into the MPG ballpark?

MPG depends on a lot of things. Remember too, the factory ratings that cover all models are tested with the best driver in the best conditions possible and certainly not a rubicon that's lifted and has super swampers and a giant winch and loaded with off road gear., and sometimes my guess is all downhill with a hurricane wind behind them.

And your driving locations and habits and conditions and where you get fuel. My JT MPG drops with the local Walmart fuel. I've tried it several times. So it actually cost more to use it. I see your in Austin so there's traffic and hills and everyone is in a hurry and there are so many intersections and lights and stops everywhere. It all adds up

I am getting 18.5 daily and 19- 20.5 on long trips. But I rarely drive in the city and when I go in and come home from work there's not a lot of traffic and it's all highway. And other than a winch bolted on, I don't haul hundreds of pounds of recovery gear daily.

New guy here. 2021 Glad bought used recently with 16K. 35" tires and lift, but not a lot of extra load. We tend to drive it gently, but the truck has not seen 20mpg. Took a 200 mile run lately with mostly highway (60-70 mph) and off road only briefly (and no real rough stuff). Averaged 17.7mpg for the trip. It would be nice to average 20-25, but especially with the over sized tires, we think we have to accept the current mpg as part of the cost of doing business.

Our $.02.

We trudge on.

I'm at 25k miles now on my '21 Mojave. I've averaged anywhere between 13 - 17 mpg depending on the conditions. A few less now that I have 35's on it.

My gas mileage is pretty horrible. I average close to 12mpg with stock wheels and tires (Mojave so ~ 33" tires). If I drive gingerly, I may be able to get 13mpg instead. In general, I'm happier driving not constantly having to monitor myself so I'm fine trading the 1mpg for a better driving experience. Most of my driving is pure city though, many times for less than 10-15 minutes at a time (so the vehicle doesn't get much time to warm up)

Best I've gotten was ~ 18.5 on pure highway driving.

Aerodynamic affects the consumption, have you seen some Jls come with wind deflectors connecting the front bumper with the fenders?
as an example my JTR with stock wheels came down from 21 MPG to 20 and then to 19 MPG ( similar driving) for just adding first the bumper cross bar then the bumper

Thanks for the reply. I envy your commute! I’ll try different fuel as an experiment. I’m getting it most often from my neighborhood Valero. Not sure if we have a winter gas mix here in central TX. Maybe that another factor? As @Maximus Gladius said?

Winter gas, cold weather, and high winds all kill my mileage. I also find driving at 75 mph. on an interstate reduces my mileage by about 3 mpg compared to 60 mph on a state highway. In winter I average about 16.5 mpg.

My Overland in summer will vary from a 10mpg low towing our travel trailer to a 23 mpg high on state highways. Average 18.5 mpg in summer.

I could do a lot better in a Prius, but nobody waves at a Prius

it's an Americana standard. I am at 16.9 now and i cruise 65 w/ cruise control to work everyday. i use the manual part of the auto trans to keep it in the highest gear i can comfortably. Stop and go is the worst. 1-4 gears usually get me 7-9 mpg. Don't spend a lot of time slowly getting to 35 mph. get there and keep RPM below or at 2k. On road trips the best i got was 19.7mpg and i have a Rubi

to the OP as you are listening to all this feedback you MuST take into consideration where people live. This was something I tried to bring up on another thread a while ago and for some reason its a hard point to understand. Location plays a big role. Huge difference between somebody living in idaho or montana and someone in florida. It would be good to paint a picture of your geographical region and variation of elevation. Flatland driving vs hilly vs mountainous vs coastal vs inland high desert all have different effects. Its not as straight forward as xx MPG.

Also, how much your vehicle weighs, if you have a canopy or not, rtt or not - it all makes a difference especially if comparing on a decimal level

For reference, JTR, 175 lb canopy and some gear, current winter average in the rocky mountains is 14.5-16 highway.

I can typically get 19-20 on long highway trips, depending on the wind speed. Jeep mostly gets driven short commutes with auto starting in the winter. Winter around town 10-12, summer typically 15-16. I do have 33’s and 3:73 gears, no lift.
