Hoping to get feedback from peeps who have made the switch from 33s to 35s on 3.73 gears and the M/T. Not going to lie my rig feels pretty sluggish on the 33s already so I’m concerned. I just love the look of the 35s !

If you go up in tire size recalibrate your speedometer I went up to a 37 inch tire and man did it make a difference when i recalibrated my speedometer I do have 4:10 gears but it should help with 3:73 gears also I would think

You can do it but it's definitely not ideal. The ratios with a 5.13 first on a 3.73 rear end and 35's (your proposed setup) is very slightly taller than what a stock 6MT Tacoma is in first gear so it's not like you're going to be causing massive wear getting started.

The issues you'll find are that you'll need to wind out gears a bit further because you are effectively widening the spacing and you're almost certainly going to lose 6th gear in everything that isn't a downhill on the freeway.

Personally, I'd plan on re-gearing or at the least, get the lightest tire you can find that fits your needs.

It's going to be a dog but you can do it. Expect the gears to wind out for sure. One of the reasons I opted for the Max Tow with 4:10 gears is so I could run 35's and still stay above 18mpgs. Expect around 12-13 MPGs with 3:73 gears. If I were you I'd look to regear it soon if you do decide to go 35's. As already said try to find the lightest ones you can but even then I wouldn't expect much better gas mileage or performance, your definitely going to feel it.

Went ahead with 315/70 17 Goodyear Duratracs which are 63 lbs and 34.4 inches. Can confirm no significant difference in acceleration from 285/70 17 Falken WP ATs. The Falkens are heavy for a 285 at 63 lbs so I believe that’s a factor. For anyone with a M/T and 3.73 gears that’s stressing about the acceleration like I was don’t worry about it !

Interesting. The 4.10 got better mpg with 35s than the normal 3.73. What ratio you think will get 35s ideal mpg and towing? 4.88/ 5.13? Thanks! I have the calculator, but that does not give mpg/towing info.

If it was me I would only go 4.56 for 35's, i think that would be ideal with 8spd auto and you could still run 37's and still be ok. I'm running 37's now and still getting over 17 MPGs on 4.10 gears

I had 3.73 with 35" pro comp mt2. It handled them OK. I had to get into the peddle more. And on passing I could feel that I was at the top end of my power band. It can be done. And you may very well be happy with it.
I had that configuration for a little over a year.
2 weeks ago I upgraded to 4.88 gears. Man, I feel so bad for folks on 35's and 3.73 now. And not to be down on you OP. It just makes that much difference. And yes I went with 4.88 because 37's may be my next set of rubbers.

I had 33s and went to 35s with 3:73 and MT. No real difference but reverse sucks even more than it did before.

How much am I looking at to install a 4.10 in my Jeep gladiator Sport? Ugh if I would’ve known this I would’ve gone with the max tow package -_-
At least $2000, probably a little more than that. Back in 2020 I got quoted $1800 for 4.88 gears but in 2023 your looking at every bit of $2000 or more I would bet with labor cost and material cost up.

3.73 is already too tall with stock tires and lugs the 3.6 in anything other than ideal steady state conditions. A 3.6 moving a heavy boxy truck through the wind needs some rpm's.

I'd personally go with 4.88's with 35's. Better city MPG, shorter 1st and reverse / easier on the clutch, better for towing, arguably no MPG drop even on the highway (don't have to step in the throttle as much). And gives you room to go with 37's later potentially.

I run 35"x12.5"x17" Kumho MT71 (mud) on Dirty Life DT1's with 3.73 gears. I still still 8th, yes not as often. Mileage ranges from 19.6 mpg down to 14.7 mpg (winter). My commute is 30km each way daily...mostly flat. No probs in mud, or snow for that matter. I tow occasionally as well.

I really don't notice a huge difference over the stock 32" (?) muds that came on the Willys. Personally, I plan to stay with the 3.73 gears til I move to 37"s.

Edit:
DT1's - 44 lbs each
MT71 - 77.88 lbs each
