I am working with a fellow Gladiator member at the moment, getting the changes made to his "tune". If the results are favorable, I will post up a small tutorial on how to best copy the changes from my file over to your calibration utilizing HP Tuners. Through this process I have come to realize I have made significant changes to the file, not just one or two tables.

Is there an opportunity to share it back with Mangnuson so they could incorporate it? Seems like there was a lot of room for improvement there.

I think Magnuson would have to CARB it first.

I wrote Magnuson an email and received no reply. I sent Petty Garage an email and they responded they would forward the information to their controls team, and get back to me if they had any questions, but I have not heard anything. I have also sent the file and notes to a couple reputable shops. My local shop, Storm Offroad is interested in using the file on their installs after going for a ride, but no trigger pulled yet.

So basically you are voiding their supercharger powertrain warranty? Are you picking up their warranty? Using anything other than the factory tune file provided would void mfrs warranty 100% of the time. There is quite a bit left on the table for this reason. I had people complain they couldn't do a burnout after installing our kit. That is because we pull timing when on the brake.
Most people who are not racers know that most breakage occurs when a vehicle does a burnout.

I am not asking them to void anything. If they wanna use they ae free to do so. When I sent the file via email I expressly told them, what ever they decide to do is on their own accord.

As for what I have done it is not for power. It is for drivability. and I believe those I have been working with will tell you this is not just a couple tables and a hope and a prayer. It is a pretty extensive overhaul.

I am not going to brag about my credentials. I don't care if people use my tune or not. I did it for me and I am enjoying working on jeeps.

I understand you are proud of your product, but you don't need to be all Clint Eastwood up in here. I have been doing this for a bit, not my first rodeo. I tried to get this in the proper hands, but I think they have moved on to the next project. So those who wish to have factory drivability can experiment with me, or they can hang on to the file Petty sends out.

I am finding that to do this right it probably is going to take two files, one for each transfer case. Hey did you know that? If your doing it right the Trans needs adjusted to use the new power correctly, and the transmission speeds between the two are significantly different.

TO all deciding to use my file. Working with another member, I have come across an issue with the tune. I have the Auto Start Stop disabled For throttle body adaptive learning during the first 100 miles. I have had my top and doors off, so I did not realize but this also makes it so the fan control only goes to low speed. I have posted a new file that keeps Auto Stop Start enabled and the fan control now works just fine.

Also as alluded to above in Mr. Tractive Fluid's reply. It has come to my attention that the Rubicon has significantly different Transmission Output speeds compared to the Sport Model. My tune utilizes the Air flow, Model, The Torque Model, and The transmission Tuning to load, the drivetrain progressively as opposed to the light switch effect. If the trans is not doing what I intend it to do then the Torque model falls off and then as expected the airflow model does not work as well as intended.

I am working with a Rubicon at the moment, and I will see if I can get everything dialed in for that setup also.

Long story short. The current tune works better on a Sport or Overland Model

Not really bragging man. Just wanting someone to be aware that they would be losing warranty if they don't use factory tunes. Being clear about warranty and liability of changing tunes doesn't really benefit me.

Yes to be clear I have no vested interest in selling anything. I do not own a product, and I am not offering any merchandise or hardware for sale. Just an 25 year practicing Controls engineer in the industry, who likes to work on this stuff in my spare time.

On that note, just a random question, being an engineer for quite a while myself (Mechanical), been slowly becoming very interested in controls / programming (AB Studio5k mostly). Anyways, to the question, what programming language to jeep PCMs use (or any car for that matter) and how does one go about hooking into It? (Is their a port on the computer itself?)

For hobby stuff I just use HP Tuners or whatever is available. I find the HP guys to be very knowledgeable and helpful and they are quick to address issues or new findings with their software. Tunning a vehicle is just changing variable tables built in by the original engineers to tune the vehicle. Hp and other companies also have OS changes that actually rewrite the operating system but I tend to stay away from that on a newer daily driver, unless we are going gonzo. At work it has been various over the years. I started out with an emulator on an erasable eprom socket. Ran on assembly code. Then we moved into the datalink days with programmable RAM and that was mostly C++ programming and proprietary tools. TodAy is mostly variants of CAN and at work we use CAN Vector and various tools to watch the datalink and modify stuff.

Alright that makes sense, now a company like Tazer, how are they going in and modifying what the car will and will not let you do electronically??? (ie...locker in 4hi, saw bar disco in 2Wd etc..) sort of on the same topic I guess...

The Tazer basically adds itself to the vehicles datalink network, like a dealer service tool. The settings are similar to things you can turn on and off using Chrysler's Starlink. For the options where you need to keep it plugged in it is acting like a secondary body control module or similar controller.

Interesting, I wonder what the programming language is.....I would love to be able to hook my laptop up to my Jeep and start hacking away

I was going to wait a bit before I gave my thoughts on the Magnuson Supercharger and to let Pettys garage address any little issues that may have come up.
Well I did have driveability issues from the get go. Got in touch with Pettys as they are doing the tuning for it and got one revised tune back from them which did not help and talked to them about some of the issues again and was mentioned that the current tune is set to stock configuration. I have 37's with 4.88 gears. They said they would get in touch with Magnuson and verify some changes they wanted to make for the aftermarket parts. That was just about a week ago and nothing, not a word. So I assume that avenue has dried up.
Issues are the light switch feel from a start and when you slow down and take back off without stopping completely, dead pedal then POW! away you go. Issues with it not wanting to go into 8th gear and hold. Going down the interstate at 77 mph, it will finally go into 8th and then any little load or maybe even just for the hell of it it will drop out of 8th. Then maybe go back in or just stay in 7th.
Now at 60 mph and any headwind just forget 8th gear. It hunts between 6, 7 and 8th so bad it pisses you off. It will go up to 7th, then maybe 8th, right back into 7th and sometimes even drop into 6th then right away into 7th. Back and forth and back and forth.
It is actually to the point I hate it. It drove better without the supercharger and held 8th better in stock form.
I am working with someone that understands programming much better than me and I am sure he will be able to get it, but as of now and if he can't I may just yank it off and go back to stock. Oh, plus I have lost about 3 mpg since installing it and that is not because of hot rodding it just everyday driving.

I had a Spintex on my 2007 JKU that was a problem and when these came out and hearing the good responses about it. Plus thinking that everything has come along so much I thought I would give it a try, kind of wish I hadn't.

I will come back to this and update it. Either way, good or bad. So it does not become an open post and others can use it in there decision making.
