I'll be surprised if MTs are kept as an option going forward, especially once the diesel option lands (auto only).

Manuals are on their way out across the industry anyway. I read recentkyvthey account for <5% of new vehicles.
The rest of the world will keep manual transmissions alive. So if a manufacturer wants to sell 5% (your numbers) more of a particular vehicle in the US, they will continue to offer it in a manual here. That's also what keeps diesels alive here, IMO. Surely demand for diesels is no greater than for sticks in the US. By your logic, cars will be dropped as well since SUVs and trucks far outnumber cars sold in the US ... and that trend continues to grow.

The only place manual transmissions are popular are on the fourms. in real life not so much.
Huh?
I guess the only reason I'm dumping my 2014 8-speed Ram 1500 4X4 (which has only ~45,000 miles) for a 6-speed JT is because they're popular only on the forums??

If everybody was buying manual transmissions they would be everywhere.
No Sh&t. That applies to EVERYTHING.

Completely agree. The only place manual transmissions are popular are on the fourms. in real life not so much. People can kick up all the dust they want but manual transmissions are dead and the sales numbers prove it. Companies are in business to make money if nobody’s buying manual transmissions they’re gonna stop. If everybody was buying manual transmissions they would be everywhere. it’s supply and demand, very simple.
I think this is what happened:

1. Manuals used to have more gears and a good driver could beat the same car with a 3 speed auto.
2. Manuals used to be more efficient.
3. Automatics caught up, many gears, more efficient, better torque converters
4. Automatics became faster and have more gears than manuals.
5. Everybody assumed that the masses just want the faster drive train, so, manuals lost favor.
6. Even Ferrari stopped producing manuals.
7. Everyone forgot that manuals is more about the driving experience, so, a bunch of the masses were not satisfied.
8. Gate Shifter manual Ferraris are worth much more than the automatics now.
9. There is still a bunch of people in the masses looking for manuals because of the driving experience, so, there is still a market.
10. The fact that Jeep still lets us get a manual in their top of the line JT is a really cool thing, and I applaud them for it. It shows me that they care about their loyal Jeep fans.

BTW, Electric cars will never have 3 pedals and a stick.

Ford did produce an electric mustang for SEMA with a manual. Doubt it will ever be mass produced but I think it’s at least possible that some manufacturer produces a EV with a stick

I think manufactures will continue to offer manual transmissions so they can have a lower base price to advertise. Our Gladiator automatic comes at a hefty $2000. I can't believe that pricing is justified over and above the manual it replaces.

Every option represents its' own high profit margin . . .

Update: Got the window sticker this morning and then a status report. My truck is on the train and in transit, loaded just one month after I placed the order!

However, there is something weird about the Window Sticker; The last item is "Integrated Off–Road Camera Credit" with $595 deducted from the MSRP. I called the dealer because I'm worried that the trail-cam was left off the build. His invoice differs and says "Back-up camera credit," instead. I do hope I get both cameras, and maybe for some inexplicable reason I got the trail-cam for free?

I'll find out sometime between (edit) 2/13 and 2/27 (I guess depending on whether the Conductor chooses to come directly here or opts for the scenic route.)

Don't you just hate it when you're on your morning commute and BOOM some Train conductor cuts you off cause he wanted to take the scenic route :CWL:

Another Update:
Don't hold me to this, but here's what my dealer found out about the Trailcam credit on my window sticker. New to him or anyone else at this dealership, he was told that the base price of Rubicons on sold orders only will now include the cost of the TrailCam. Hence, the $595 was taken off of mine. He was told that at this point it does not apply to Gladiators already on the lots (which applies to no one on this thread.)

I ain't complaining.

Crazy that you ordered yours 12 days after I did with exact spec with the exception of the black roof and wireless speaker in yours. Mines sitting in a computer line up waiting to be built and yours is on a train on its to your dealer. Doesn't make much sense at all.

Sorry for your delay. Just a WAG, but maybe other components like the safety stuff or steel bumper are running behind. One slow part could delay the whole thing.

I was talking with a dealer about an order and they said the truck of the year package was not available to order. I just heard back and this is what the dealer said FCA told him:

The reason for the "truck of the year package" not being available with your order is due to this being a manual transmission. They have a shortage of wiring harness's for the Overland edition with manual transmission being paired with the 8.4 inch touch screen.

They did not give me an eta on getting this solved anytime soon. We actually had another customer order that was already placed with the same scenario. That customer was notified to take the 7 inch screen or wait for the order for an extended period of time that they would not give an ETA for.

I also ditched a 2014 ram 8 speed pentastar for a manual JT, well planned on it, someone wrote off my ram in november so it happened sooner than i thought as that ram was still like new.

If i could have bought my pentastar ram 1500 with a manual then i would have back then. So happy i can have a truck that suits a normal family dad lifestyle with a manual transmission again. The toyota tacoma is probably the worst family truck choice going so it was never on the list...day to day comfort and livability just isn't there with toyota. The only other truck recently available with a manual was a 3/4 ton power wagon i believe...way too much truck for 90% of the family dads.

I cannot state strongly enough just how happy i am to be rowing my own again. I've been a jeep guy for 27 years but only owned one jeep for the first 4 of those years. From then on i just needed a truck more than a jeep for the remaining 23 years and two vehicles not an option, so i just watched and dreamed about jeeps from then on. Now, finally, 27 years later, that they make a jeep truck...gold...and offer a manual transmission in it?...pure gold in motoring achieved. Thank you fca! Thank you Jeep!

By your logic, cars will be dropped as well since SUVs and trucks far outnumber cars sold in the US ... and that trend continues to grow.
Didn't Ford drop all cars (except Mustang) from their lineup in favor of trucks and SUVs for that very reason?

So if a manufacturer wants to sell 5% (your numbers) more of a particular vehicle in the US, they will continue to offer it in a manual here.
That presupposes that the people buying a manual option would not buy the vehicle unless the manual is offered, which I think is a bad assumption.
