No, you are missing the point. You paid extra for the name "rubicon". I can build my Sport S Max Tow for less than you paid for your rubicon and have just as capable of an off road vehicle as some of the features you are infatuated with are not needed.

Understand I own a 2010 Ram Power Wagon with lockers front and rear, factory disconnecting sway bar, factory winch, and 4:56 gears with a rear limited slip. After owning the Power Wagon for years, when looking at prices of JT's and the packages/options I penciled it out and know I can build a very capable off road Jeep JT that meets my needs for far less than what the "rubicon" package would cost me.
I’m not missing the point. You’re making it for me. You can build WHAT YOU WANT, for less. Probably very true. But you can’t get equal features for less. And the features you claim are not needed, may not be needed BY YOU. but that doesn’t mean you can negate their usefulness to others.

Not in the slightest. My only argument is against the theory that you can get the same features for less money. If you don’t want those features, don’t buy one. If I didn’t intend to use them, I would have bought a Willy’s. You do seem obsessed with proving that you can have a rubicon for less money by adding lockers and quick disconnects. But then you mention features you won’t have, killing your theory.
it's all moot. I bet the majority of rubicon owners never even use their electronic sway disconnect, and majority of max tow never use the extra 1000lbs of tow rating.

They both look good at the mall ;)

Ok. I gotta ask. Why is it everyone with a max tow has to say its a max tow in every post?

its an option for a trailer hitch different axles and a 4.10 rear, right? It kinda seems like its the same thing as saying “cold weather package“ or “8.4 Nav”

what am i missing that i cant understand why its important whether or not you have a max tow option???
I totally agree with you. Big frickin deal MACS TOE so what.

Until you have one, you just wouldn’t understand
.. it’s an option thing. haha
 jk

and yes I have one, and I bought it for what it had vs a regular sport/ overland. I knew I would rarely, if ever use the options with the rubicon, and the Mojave wasn’t out yet. I needed something to get to hunting camps, have fun and haul my dogs
I just don’t get all the hate
I have a gladiator plain and simple, and I wave at all models.

Agreed. So do I. I’m not arguing about it’s validity at all. All trim levels and models work very well for what they’re designed for. I will only argue the dollars argument. I shouldn’t have though. I’m also not a huge fan of the people that say rubicons are a waste of money. It has options most people shouldn’t pay for, but that’s not the same thing.

I had an interesting discussion with the sales guy and a guy high-up in their shop.......... yeah, quite a few here - IN THE FORUM - use their Wranglers and Gladiators off-road. But they've apparently seen info showing that in general, they are sold and driven and people buy what they like based on more psychological factors than need. They said most Rubicons and Mojaves sold across the country never see any real off-road use. Even the max tow versions for the most part tow - but not usually anything near their tow weight rating.
So you can't go by what internet/forum people do, or don't do. Heck, do you need a Hummer to take the kids to daycare and drive to work? Or to get a gallon of milk and pick the kids up from school? You never see 'em dirty or muddy. But you see them parked letting kids off or picking them up, and at the grocery store. (not even at the home centers!)
Similar for the Gladiator - the guys told me the Rubicons are the bigger sellers at their store - but their customers just drive them. The majority don't even get lifts, and they don't have them come in after a hard day down in the river bottoms.
Funny thing - you see lifted ZJs and WJs in the river bottoms in our area! Wrangler? No. Gladiator? No. Old Grand Cherokees, and now and then a lifted 90s Cherokee. So funny.
So all the arguing and going back and forth about what's best, what's needed, whatever - it's personal, and from the forum it might appear that they get used hard off-road, but you guys in in the minority, not a good representation.

I got my Sport S Max tow because we are going to tow, wanted a mid sized truck, needed the best payload and wanted to be able to tow off the beaten path and well love Jeeps!!! The Max Tow fit the bill.

Every single Gladiator has its inherent purpose and then we mod them the way we want. That is what makes Jeeps great. If I wanted an offroad speedster
Mohave (beautiful lines)
.comfortable on road
High Altitude (yummy interior)
..go over the boulder and through the tub
.Rubicon (loves staring at the sky going up).
.like arm exercises and feeling like you are in touch with Jeeps origins?
base Sport, and so on.

We are all here because we love our Gladiators
.

Interesting, and good, comparison engine-wise as HP is the rate at which actual work is done, like moving an object xx feet in yy minutes.
So truck stability, handling, suspension, and that sort of thing aside, assume those abilities are there, if you figure like you did it's a fair measure of if the engine itself can do it or not.

In the case of your RAM may have been more able to cool, and have other factors in its favor for tow rating. You have to keep the ponies cool and that's part of the testing - handle these chores without overheating or tripping any MIL/CEL.
2021 Grand Cherokee with 3.6 and the same 8 speed automatic - tow rating 6,200 pounds.
No denying the cooling angle. The Ram HDs have truly massive grilles, radiators, and fans. That’s why that truck was rated for towing 18k pounds, and that’s in the most optioned out lux model you could get. Try to push the same pounds per HP like that with a Gladiator and it’ll cook in no time.
