Mojave rear shocks are bad at 18,000 miles

I am wanting to say that the Bilstein 5160 are what the OEM is using now. I was on a trail run at EJS this year and Bilstein was on it talking about their shocks and that Jeep has gone with them for the shocks.

Bilstein's come standard on Power Wagons since 2005. They're equal to the 5100's.

Somethings I can't figure out. Power Wagon has used the Bilsteins. Jeep not. Fox on Jeep, PW not.

Winch on PW as standard. Jeep not.

PW has a LSD plus electric locker rear diff. Jeep not.

Jeep locker locks right now. Pw locker sometimes takes ever to lock.

I didn't like the thought of the harsh in-town feel digressive shocks would give on our roads and streets and RR tracks around here so opted for progressive Eibachs - surprise - harsh ride anyway. Stock gave the best ride, no harshness on bumps.
So back to the idea board.

I don't like digressive on an off road vehicle. That includes the 5100s. They are ok for being cheap and they give a firmer feel, but at the expense of being harsh. I have been happy with Falcons and may move to the 3.2 or Kings next.

Perhaps Jeep was aiming for a "ride" for a broader customer base? Bilsteins = digressive valving, correct?
After digging and researching those, I decided no way since mine is on the streets and roads around here 99.5% of the time and I didn't want the pavement buckles, holes, patches and expansion joint shifts to jar my teeth constantly.
On the other hand, Eibachs are suppose to be progressive, not digressive - but they sure ride harsh on our city streets.

Jeep is trying to sell to a broader market - so they need to keep the ride nice. The percentage of women and professionals like my brother buying even Wranglers is quite high, in reality.
Plus - admit it - those who off-road typically lift and modify so why put anything on that's going to get tossed to the side anyway?

I hope not as they would be a downgrade from the 2.5" fox internal bypass shocks on the mojaves. The 5160 is just a 5100 with a reservoir if I recall correctly. No internal bypass. Smaller body. Smaller shaft. Digressive valving. None of those are what I want for going fast in the desert. Hopefully they are at least running the 2-3" lift version so you gain some suspension travel with the rest of the negatives?

I just hit 18,000 miles today.

I have a full spare set the shop told me only has 3,600 miles on them. I was going to put them in my '19 JLUR, but I'm going to clean them up and sell them. Going with some Bilstein 5100s on the JLUR since they'll be a direct bolt in application.

I put Mojave shocks on my wife's JLU High-Tide. The High-Tide comes with a 1.5" lift from the factory. I bought TeraFlex 2" front shock extensions for the front and Metelcloak shock relocation brackets for the rear. The relocation brackets are about a 3" shock extension...

The bottom bushings bolts are easy, just enlarged the hole on the extension to 14mm

The top bushings I replaced the bushings with the correct ones for a JLU, works like a charm. The Mojave ride so nice on the JLU, I highly recommend it!

(2) Mopar Part # 68274895AA Rear Upper (M12 Bolt) - $10.94 each

I bought a spare set of Mojave rear shocks so I can rebuild them, Now I need a set of front ones ..

They are going to see if they order them directly from Fox & charge them back to Jeep.

I will believe it when I see it.

I wonder if this will turn into some sort of class action lawsuit…

I just contacted Jeep warranty and they opened a case to look into the matter. They will first get in contact with the dealer to see what the issue is and then call me back in 1-2 days.

In typical Jeep fashion they have plenty of Mojave shocks for all of the ones they're building right now but none for repair as they allocate a grand total of 0% to the dealer Network and 100% to new production. They really couldn't care less about you after the sale.

@JeepCares why are no shocks available for warranty work but plenty for new builds?

According to motortrend they are still running the fox 2.5s on the 2024s.

Whoops, I am mistaken! After being questioned about my statement. I got to thinking (old man memory issues).

It is the 2" Mopar lift that is getting the Bilstein shocks now. Sorry for the incorrect info.

Got 20kmi on my Mojave, and dealer has ordered new rear shocks. Had to drive the tech and service manager around so they could hear the noise. The tech greased up the control arms and end links and didn't remedy. I was told fox shocks have been ordered and I bring it in May 1st to have them swapped.
