The SL tires are 10+ lbs lighter than the OE LT tires. I’ve been super impressed with the Wildpeaks, and have used them to do some exploring within several hours’ drive. I’m not sure that I really need an LT tire for what I do, and I’m thinking that the SL tire might give me some benefits ( ride, mpg, less wear on components, … ). Does anyone have any experience with taking a Mojave to a SL 33” tire, and what did you find?

An AT tire, 17” rim, SL, in 34” or 35” could get interesting

I had the Bridgestone Revo 3's in 315/70-17 (load range C I believe) on my 21 Mojave. They were actually 1 lb lighter than the factory Wildpeaks and absolutely loved them

Interesting; I like the rims too. Was the ride softer, and/or see any changes in mpgs?

The ride was much quieter and, honestly, rode very well. MPG was virtually unchanged from the stock wheel/tire combo as was power. I took pains to keep the rim/tire combo weight under the factory ones for that reason.

There have been many discussions about this. Typically SL tires have a thinner sidewall (better ride quality?) and shallower tread hence why they are lighter. It's proven that they are more susceptible to punctures/flats. I guess if you are never ever going to go off-road then SL's might be a logical choice.

Yeah; got that; am looking for actuals, specifically on the Mojave suspension.

As a reference, my trail activities are similar to this vid ( and a little more ), and I don’t plan on hauling/towing a lot. Seems like the LTs are potentially a little overkill for my needs, so I’m trying to find other’s experience, with an SL, on that truck ( size, weight, suspension). For the JT Mojave, it kind of feels like the SL would be better, if you don’t do things that might punch the sidewall.

@Gvsukids I’m wanting to know if the gladiator does well with a softer tire; softer than a C, on light/moderate trails. If it was an F-150 ( or heavier truck ), I totally would understand the LT tire. As a mid-size truck, aren’t the LT tires a smidge overkill? I can’t wrap my head around using a E rated tire on the trail with a Mojave suspension.

Maybe I’m asking the wrong question; would I need to be under 4k lbs to even consider a SL tire for mild/moderate trails ?

Found it : so, I thought a JTM would be closer to the weight of a TRD Pro, but it’s not. The TRD Pro comes with P-rated A/T tires, and weighs 500lbs less than a JTM

Today's midsize pickups weigh about the same as yesteryear's full sized.

With my first pickup, got a flat on gravel with the original P tires in forest campground. Moved to LT tires and no more flat tires ever again.

Just run the tires with softer air pressure. Or softer shocks. I've never had a problem with the stock tires being too firm.

Given your requirements I'd recommend an all-terrain LT tire in load range C, same diameter and width as stock.

I went from the stock narrow street tires to somewhat wider all-terrain LT load range E of the same diameter, and only lost a little MPG, but gained better handling, load carrying, and puncture resistance. If you want the lighter weight and maybe a softer ride, use load range C instead, and choose shocks accordingly when it's time to replace them.

And I would never recommend SL tires for any kind of trail, including a gravel road.
