So my tailgate will randomly open sometimes. I'm very careful to shut it and I feel like it's latched, but twice now I've gotten somewhere and walked around the truck only to find the gate is wide open. There's no visual indicator on the dash that it's open, and I have a tonneau, so visually I can't see ANYTHING from inside the cab. I'm really worried that it's going to happen with a bed full of bags/stuff one day and leave me dropping things all over the highway.

Has anyone else had this happen? Any thoughts on how I can adjust something to keep this from happening?

Only time I've had it happen was after trying to open the tailgate only to find it was frozen to the tonneau cover and would not open, so I just drove off. After it warmed up it opened.
Not to sound like a high priest for Tazer, but one of the features it adds that Jscan and the rest can't do is it lets you EASILY activate the rear cam whenever you want. Easy way to check if you left the tailgate open.

my bed cover makes it harder to latch. I'm used to it now, but my wife has twice thought it was shut and driven off.

You can turn on the rear view cam with the 7" system, no JSCAN needed but it will turn off on its own after a few seconds.

I would suggest maybe closing the tonneau after the tailgate. Or just using a little extra force.

my Gladiator has the DNA hard tonneau. Sometimes the tailgate will not close completely. I can usually tell by the sound that it isn’t fully latched. Yes it did open on its on once. There is a noticeable gap when it isn’t fully latched. The design of my tonneau does not allow for closing tailgate then the tonneau. It uses 2 draw catches on the last 2 sections of the tri-fold.

You've got to slam it.

So I have a Tazer installed - I know the rear camera thing is a feature, but I need to read up on how you easily activate the rear camera. I just haven't read the instructions on how to do that quickly/easily. That's a good option for checking as I'll just see the road if it's open.

Only other things I can think of is maybe bedliner sprayed too thick or the gasket on the tonneau preventing a solid latch?
This was the only thing I thought of, so I'm glad somebody else thought it might be part of it. I looked at my latches yesterday after it happened again and noticed some overspray from my Line-X install. Nothing seemed to be impacting the functionality of the latch that I could easily see, but I did use a pick and razor to scrape off a few pieces of bedliner that were down in the latch mechanism just in case. I'm hoping that helps, but I guess only time will tell.

Mine too. It started when I turned 70 and has gotten worse over the years. Imodium sometimes helps though.

Mine does but I have a hard tonneau. Sometimes it feels solid but comes open so I just yank the tailgate whenever I close it. There was also latch on the tonneau itself, after working the latch from the cable and lock simultaneously it has worked ever since. Try working the handle and patch at the same time with the tailgate open and setting if that helps.

.... x2 if you lightly close the gate it does't latch fully. Don't ask me why, but when closing lightly you can still feel movement in the gate. Re-closing with some force and the gate is then solid.

You can go into “apps” and then drag and drop any icons onto your main toolbar as I’ve done with my cams….

Happened to me once, but my tailgate was frozen to my cover. So when I was driving it dropped down. You can check the rear camera to see if it's down or not.

I had LineX sprayed, and had it fall open once after that.... I was headed to the Icehouse with my buddy's shiny steel-belted Budweiser-branded Coleman icechest, took off, made a few turns, then heard a bump and skitter sound.... looked back and saw that thing sliding down the street like a hockey puck.

this was shortly after installing my Bestop Supertop, so I was taking it easy on closing it to be kind to everything.... but it's not a fine Italian sports car.

Ever since, I've made sure to give it a solid slam, and it hasn't happened again.

The rubber bumpers eventually softened to where it doesn't need as hard of a slam,
