I looked at one with the saddle seats but it didn’t have heated seats so I got this one with black interior.
Sarge and saddle looks awesome!

Very nice, like the Sage Green

One of the things that has been mentioned is the mileage. Couple that with the torque and I am very interested. We drag our current 2020 JTR behind our motorhome and look for crawling opportunities. He have about 45k miles on it and after 2500 miles in 5 days recently (11.3 - 12 mpg), I decided to get serious about the diesel JTR.

My question is, is it a good choice. With past problems, recalls, and it no longer being offered, is the diesel reliable Once I’m convinced of that, I’m going to seriously search for a new ‘23.

would really appreciate any any thought opinions.

Many thanks,

Jim

I read about the ecodiesel for about a year before I decided on one. With the discounts I couldn't resist. And it seems that everyone has one really loves it.

Please keep in mind, the forums are where people come to bitch, complain and over dramatize everything... I can only assume when you speak of "past problems " - "recalls" your refering to the HPFP and the tailgate lock ? Other than this... what are all the problems you hear about ? Keep in mind, even the failure rate on the HPFP, is less than 1%... from my experience and IMO, the diesel is a very reliable platform and any issues have been grossly exaggerated. The diesel IS THE ONLY platform I would own in the JT format.

*ask any long term owner of the diesel on this forum that actually "knows" the expectations/limitations of the JT, they will say they love it and would purchase it again.
@SargeDiesel, I agree, unlike this thread, many are negative posts. And yes, I guess my biggest concern was the recall issues you mentioned, the most concern with the HPFP.

If I find a new 2023 Diesel JTR, is it reasonable to assume that issue would have already been addressed, and is the fix … good?

Thanks for the response.

They had every color but when I saw this one I had to have. I think they had 22 rubicon ecodiesels when I first started looking two weeks ago.
@Rankdog, would you mind disclosing which dealer had the 22 Rubicon Diesels?

I’m starting to look today!

Thanks,

Jim

Yes, from my understanding, if a JTRD was sitting on the lot, it was unable to be sold until the recall was completed. The only way I believe you would have any concerns is if you bought from a private party that had not completed the recall.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy either way. The failure rate is very low.

Many thanks, have started my search. Hope to find one to do up like our current 2020.

Realistically, we aren’t quite to the point where enough ecodiesel Jeep owners have created 100-140k miles to know the real failure point. I am sure that we will get this data from the 1500 forums…. My opinion is the fuel pumps will likely have a life of around 120k miles…. Think timing belt on a car… push mush past this mark and it could explode and quadruple the cost… vs just replacing it somewhere around that mark and get peace of mind for another 120k or so.

For history- most tdi VW’s with cp4’s change the fuel pump at the same time they change the timing belt… though they have cp3 conversions options while this does not yet…
fuel pump is making 24-30kpsi…. It’s going to eventually fail :).

To those that have gotten the recall done- cool, instead of 120k mile replacement, it’s stretched a bit further down the road.

The pump is in a super convenient location, willing to bet most that are used to maintaining their vehicles at home could do this in 2-3 hours without too much trouble. Guy who did mine had it complete in 40 min… though he said he’s done 30+ now.
