Hey Now.... Yes....I have a poser stock jeep (Mojave) and yes......I'm going to put a name on it. Izzy III

If someone wants to criticize me for being a poser....so be it. I will show them plenty of photos from 15 years ago with Izzy I and Izzy II. We've earned our off-roading stripes.... 10 years of dirt/mud/rocks/trails/trips/towing/ awesome friends & awesome memories.

.... and then you get older...... and your body doesn't work like it used to. Walking around on rocky terrain and climbing up into a tall rig - isn't as easy. You pull muscles & tendens in places you didn't know existed. Your priorities change. You realize what a pain in the ass it is to clean all that mud off. You realize that mud/dirt is hard on bearings, seals, and various other parts. You no longer have the drive (did I mention those muscles & tendons?) to fix all those repairs yourself.

And yes...I have a personalized license plate.... it's my nickname and I've had it since I was 20 years old (36 years ago).

Sounds like you'd be happier in a plain old boring truck...Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Toyota...
Def ain't a poser. Go run against some modded non-Monjaves in the desert - you'll smoke them.

Stock isn't posing. (Edit-- In fact, stock Jeeps getting wheeled gets more respect from me than almost anything.) But buying 20k worth of bolt ons to never go offroad-- that's posing. It reminds me of Joey:

Make no mistake, this applies across the board. My buddy just traded in his 4xe Rubicon he never used, to buy a Tundra TRD pro he'll also never use. He immediately spent more money on rock sliders and more skid plates, knowing full well he will never, ever go offroad in it. To me, I don't get why people are so inclined to waste money to try an appear to be something they're not. But it isn't my money, so it isn't my say. I'll just keep living my life.

I'll leave with this quote, modified for my purposes:

"A knight Jeep in shining armor is a man Jeep whose never had his metal tested."

I have no issue with people placing a duck in the door handle. I have no issue with people displaying all the ducks they've been given. What gets me are those that have obviously purchased a bag of ducks and display them. I've seen too many stock jeeps with a gazillion ducks. Cheapens they whole duck thing.

I've a bucket full I've been given... don't actually display them usually have one or two on dash. They were all given to me, in the wild it is rare like a few times a year. But the bucket full is because I went to a few rallies and my hood would get covered in them. Usually kids handing them out there and when I wasn't at the jeep they just leave them. So I doubt people are buying ducks just to display... but ok lol.

I wave at Broncos. There i said it. I also wave at worked Tacos and XJs too
I live in WV. I wave at people for no reason. If the inhabitants of this world spent more time on random nice acts, it would go a long way.

BTW, I don’t do the duck thing, but it doesn’t bother me. I have given them to toddlers in passing after receiving one. A child’s smile goes a long way.

The older I get, the more often I yell at clouds and tilt toward windmills.
Careful about lumping all those 70 year olds together! Not all of us are cranky and worry what anyone else thinks. Life's to short to worry about all this stuff. But some of the posts have made me laugh at least.

So I may sound like an old person complaining about a new age thing, but is anyone else annoyed by people placing these ducks on their vehicle? I am an "old school jeeper" I guess. I bought my first Jeep(88YJ) the day I turned 15(25ish years ago) and have the old school mentality I guess of you don't touch someone's vehicle if you don't know them. And I know the Jeep duck stuff is a newer phenomenon started by a mom in Canada or what ever the back story is. Honestly I don't see how some of these people I see coming down the road can even see due to the reflections stretching all the way across their dash.

Other than getting on here to rant about how I don't believe people should touch your vehicle let alone leave something on it, is there a way other than having no ducks on my dash to let these people know not to leave these on my truck? When they do its just going to the trash or my dog.

And yes I am sure I am going to upset some of you with my opinion on this but it is what it is. Some of you love this new sort of "jeep thing" but I am sure there are others that also cant stand it. I just really want to know how to avoid getting these left on my truck.

Thanks for any helpful advice and for listening to my rant.
If you wait until a bit closer to Christmas, you could perhaps go to Macy's and punch Santa and kick an elf... that should help with your anxiety!

Compliments of the AI bot!

A Prius rolled by, with a driver so stern, At a Jeep with a duck, their expression would burn. "Such a childish display!" they would mutter and frown, But the Jeep didn't care, with its top proudly down.

The duck, perched on high, with a mischievous glint, Had a secret it whispered, a tale with a hint. "Don't judge by appearances," it quacked with a wink, "This Jeep's full of stories, adventures that clink!"

Perhaps it once climbed a mountain so steep, Or swam through a puddle, oh muddy and deep. Maybe it carries a family, with laughter and cheer, Creating memories, year after year.

So next time you see a Jeep, with a duck on display, Don't think of a nuisance, that just gets in your way. Think of freedom and fun, of the wide open road, And maybe a smile, from that grumpy old Prius toad!

I honestly don't care enough to care either way. I'd prefer no ducks because it will just end up rolling around the floor until it gets busted up from being stepped on or chewed on by my dog until I have to throw it away.

First, this is a safe place to vent - that's one of the great things about this site - we all have at least one thing in common...

I'm a bit older than you and I've had Jeeps in all of their shapes and sizes for 29 years. So I'm used to the curiosity of people who aren't acquainted with the freedom and occasional discomfort of riding around topless and/or doorless.

Ducking is a fairly recent phenom and so far I haven't taken issue with someone leaving a duck on my running board, door handle or mirror. I get at least 2-3 per month or more in the course of a year and those are the only places I have ever found them. I have one of the few Punkin Orange Metallic Jeeps and the only Gladiator I have seen around this area in that color, so I have no issue with someone letting me know they appreciate how my rig looks. My wife and I also have an 11 yr old (a late edition to the family) and he gets a huge kick out of the whole duck thing and finding them on my Jeep. I guess I'm lucky as I have a young son that still thinks Dad is cool and I get the opportunity to see the world through his eyes.

That being said, I'm not comfortable "ducking" anyone else's ride and I don't let my son do it either because honestly I don't need someone freaking out on him for something he views as fun and just being nice. I/we will let someone know in person at the gas station, Home Depot or other places that I/we appreciate the style of their ride and don't mind stopping to answer a curious question or two like "how does it drive" (just fine, no issues), "do you like it?" (YES!). People don't talk enough in person anymore (In My Opinion).

My reaction would be completely different if I ever came out of a store and found someone sitting on my running boards, touching my vehicle or anything resembling that. In 1997 I did physically and not gently "remove" an individual who I found in the front seat of my doorless and roofless 1995 Wrangler rummaging for change in my center console. I stuck around long enough to make sure he was able to get up and stumble away...

Maybe get a small decal that says "No Ducks Given" (LOL)

There’s a duck explosion on the beach they’re unavoidable. I don’t mind so much, my 3 y/o granddaughter loves to play with them in the pool. I prefer my Filipina hula girl who reminds me of Subic Bay. Oh so many years ago………

I hate the trend as well even though I know it got started for a good reason. I always give them to my grand kids to play with or toss them out. It's not just a jeep thing now, all kind of vehicles are running around with these things all over their dash. It looks dumb and a grown man shouldn't be running around with ducks on their dash.
