I wonder if crazy temperatures we had for a bit. The truck is in a garage never colder than 60. Outside we have had between teens to 50s during the day. You have plastic or composite and engine block bolted together they both expand and contract at different rates. Then the fact that i only have 18000 miles but it is 4 years old. In reality none of that should of made a difference??? It may of not been installed as well as some. I torqued it down at 4 steps to be safe Who knows

Sounds like you did what you could. At least you’ve got it fixed. I hate leaks.

I first replaced the factory installed updated mopar assembly with a Dorman which leaked badly next dat i think it laster a few miles because the area its in looks to hold about a quart before it shows on the ground. Then i said to hell with dorman and ordered a Mopar Which is holding so far according to dip stick as nothing is showing yet. None leaked where the MOPAR upgrade took place always at the bottom. All said and done it cost me $155. For cooler and the cost of new oil. It comes with a filter installed
Thanks for the update, do you have the Mopar part number for the upgraded unit that you installed?

This is the new Design, I think on another thread it came out during 2023 - would have to check your vin and build sheet....etc. (Benny may help or you gotta go to a dealer).

68596318AB - New design has more barriers to prevent leakage.

I took my original apart and it has the divider between the O ring. As I said my Jt was built 5/22 hence its a 2022 and came with the new style and thats not the area where most have a leak. It seems to be at the base not where the picture shows. The Dorman did not leak between the cooler and the housing either. Do some searching here and the Jl forum , same deal. My new OFH is no different than the one mine came with. Its normally just O rings. For $125 more I was not chancing a problem I could not see so I swapped the whole thing at the time

I’d do the same. Why take it apart twice.

The O ring on the inlet pipe on the bottom is a black 23mm od / 18.3 mm id on 22 which is newer OFH. Red 22.3mm od / 17.5 id on 2021-2014 O ring. It comes with the black O ring installed.

That is interesting - idk the research I have been deep diving on - two reasons Mopar did the plastic/aluminum mix on their cooler - Cost & Temperature. Modern Plastics tolerate temperatures a lot better than they used to, and a lot better than basic metals - it also allowed them to save money -is it perfect, no a human made it a human will figure out how to break, only to improve it again. So when your wheeling in the hot desert and then run through some water sudden change in temperature causes expanse and retract - metal will break - modern plastic will tolerate it longer/better have a higher threshold before breaking.

But Rocky, But Rocky - its the opp plastic will break before Metal - All depends on the structural level and actual chemistry make up - Again plastic has come a long way last official numbers FCA released was back in 2019 that over 10 million 3.6L Penstars have been built - its 2026 I bet that number is close to 20 million now. I really doubt more than 200,000 engines have failed/oil coolers have failed. Big Auto Manufactures are trying to make things the most cost effective they can to take the abuse of people who never even read the manual of their product - thats what Engineering is all about.

But hey this is just my 2 cents - end of the day your vehicle you do you. I drive in the midwest, we get cold winters and hot enough summers....etc.

I’m guessing the same reason I didn’t. I hate dealers so much, and trust them less than a teenager with a flask at prom.
Same , I only resort to dealers when absolutely 💯 % necessary .

Reminds me of a story: Best ready to be amused .
Years ago I was told I need ed to give site orientation to a small tree cutting crew . I went to the far away spot arrived there was mud hub cap deep to a ferris wheel.
I worked my way over ,under and around until I seen one fella , I said hey I was told to orientate you guys. I said how many more of you are there ?
He says just myself and 1 more . I said okay . He called him on the radio it was hotter than 2 hob's of hell out and The guy took 20 minutes to show up .
Finally He arrives I whip out my trusty pen and say okay what ypur name to the first guy. He says Tom i said okay and I collected his last name which was an ordinary one.
Then I looked at the guy who had made me wait so long . And He just blurts out "Necessary " I was disgusted and said " Yes this is Necessary !" He says oh no thats my last name I said "for reals " He says yes. I said "well whats the first name" He says " Dallas" I was really bent out of shape at this point and said " Please dont be smart I dont want to know where your from I just need your first name. He says that is my first name 🤯😂
I said " So your telling me your name is Dallas Necessary ". He said yep and promptly pulled out his wallet and showed me his driver's license which readily backed up his claim. Needless to say I felt like a total 🫏 Jack@$$ and I did the orientation and walked off the site got in my truck and left. I have laughed so many times thinking about it. Especially when I recall him not cracking a smile and being so sincere.
Okay kids story times over . 😂😂
