Paint your grill insert to pick up the red in the tow hooks, Jeep badges, and decals!

It's very easy to remove it with a panel tool (don't use a screwdriver--it's too easy to scratch something). A couple of cans of Rustoleum Gloss Red peelable paint and BAM. It's like Plastidip, but the actual Plastidip brand red is pale and almost salmon-like; I tried it and the Rustoleum is much better. Easy afternoon project and if you don't like it, peel it off!

Does it pop out with the tool individually or do you remove the grill?

Brings back memories from 1.5 years ago. As everyone else says, build it to suit your needs and not others. For instance, I knew I was going to wheel "difficult" trails so my first big purchase was a decent bumper and winch. If I wasn't planning on wheeling where I do, the winch would not have been a practical "first" purchase.

did you buy a truck that happens to be a convertible, or a convertible that happens to be a truck?

My personal #1 and #2 mods thus far are doorless mirrors and a sunrider respectively. But if you don't much care for wind noise, those will probably not appeal very much to you.

Some bits to secure stuff in your bed would be a great idea too. Whether we're talking about a tonneau or ratcheting straps (or both depending on what you're hauling). Just don't rely on bungee cords.

Bought this bad boyboy yesterday. Now what??

Stubby antenna, steps to replace the rock rails unless you’re going to go off-roading and if you’ve got a vertically challenged wife, pick out some decals that you might want on the rig. I’m partial to “ghost” type graphics on my gloss black Willys edition. Lots of inexpensive internal mods on Amazon too. I really like the compartmentalizaiton of the lower arm rest space that I have now with the insert from Amazon. Just ordered an American flag grill screen in black and gray, arrives today. My JT is lightly modded and only for appearance sake so far. 9 months and 9k miles on it so far.

Pop the hood and you'll see 7 fasteners holding the grill assembly in. Remove those carefully. The grill comes out easily. If you have the trail cam, it's easy to disconnect both the camera and the water sprayer.

Then there are some clips holding the inserts you want to paint and the honeycomb insert on--these pop loose with pliers or a screwdriver.

You can have the whole thing taken apart in 10 minutes. It's easy. Paint the insert panel, let dry, reassemble.

I agree with Ceramic coat while it's new. but that needs to be applied to completely cured paint, and all the wax crap the dealer put on needs to come off. I would think as long as it's been off the assembly line for a couple months, the paint should be as hard as it can be. I've even heard some enthusiasts say that they refused to allow their dealer to wash their fresh Jeep that just got delivered because the paint is still soft.

A couple of the early items I bought were a tonneau cover, rubber floor mats, trail rail for bed, hot heads for the hard top, back seat covers (because kids), and my absolutely favorite cheap thing I bought was this:

$17 makes your stereo knobs look a million times better. They truly look just like the amazon photos imply. Shop around, I think there are now kits that cover the knob on the left of steering wheel too.

Now what? Get a decent set of tools. Next, go to some places to test it out and to get a feel for it. Decide if anything needs to be changed and then change those things. A decent set of tools makes working on these things a ton of fun. Nice ride you picked up, enjoy it.

Your truck is perfect! That is exactly what mine looked like when I picked it up. $15,000 Canadian Loonies later it looks a bit different. I’m not sure if every Loonie (or Toonie) that I have spent was fiscally logical (or sane), but at least I can say that there isn’t going to be another one exactly like it in the Walmart parking lot. That is what I love about Jeeps….the ability to modify it into your vision of the perfect balance of form and function.

Took me about 20 minutes start to finish. Very happy with the result.
