Okay, so what is the actual tow rating?

Hello,

I just picked up a 2024 gas Rubicon with a class IV hitch, rear camera zoom, aux switches, and 4.10 gears and I am a little confused. I was sure that those package items meant I had a 7000lb tow rating. The dealer agreed with me when I asked him to check. My manual on the other hand told me to check the website, which says 4500. When I check my paperwork from the dealer it does not say I have a tow package, or that my hitch is a class IV, but the jeep website says my truck has a class IV.

Can you not get the better cooling anymore, and does that alone make the Rubicon less able to tow? I bought this thing to tow a 5000lb boat with some extra breathing room. I am hoping I do not need to buy a 2023 cooling fan to meet those numbers.

If you have an automatic, the theoretical tow rating for a Rubicon is 7,000lbs. That is of course limited by the payload sticker on your door jamb.

For example, with a 1,100lb payload rating and a 5,000lb boat, assuming 10% tounge weight, you have 660lbs for passengers and cargo before you are technically over your truck’s capability. Payload varies by truck, so check your door jamb and subtract 500lbs for your truck’s tongue weight to know how much room you have to play with.

Attached is the 2023 JTR product guide, you’ll find the answer you’re looking for on page 12… I doubt it has changed for 2024.

Thanks. I know the Gladiator is going to be limited by my passengers, my future skid plates and gear choices, and the last few taco bell runs, but 7000 was the number that pushed me to the Rubicon to begin with. I am glad I was not wrong about that. I just wish that Jeep put it in the manual.

Your hitch/hitch ball/ball mount will all play a part (you probably know that) in the final number in what you can tow safely, but Camping World is usually current and correct because they want to sell RVs to people and not get sued 8-)

edit: nvmd don't need it. If you got to the Jeep website website and select any Rubi/Mojave trim and then go down to the standard equipment tab. It list HD cooling and tow package as standard for those trims. so as long as it has a class IV reciever, then by the 24' user manual with the 8 speed auto equipped. The max tow rating is 7000 lbs. if you got the 6 speed manual, max tow rating is 4500 lbs

Does your manual have actual ratings? Mine just says check the website.

Sweet. Thank you. That is what I thought, but I have 2 different window stickers with 2 different information sets and nothing about a tow package, just everything *but* the cooling listed as individual line items.

Heaven forbid Jeep would just put the vehicle specific GCWR number on the specs sticker like they do the payload. That sure would take a lot of the guessing and conflicting info out of things.

It's a community building exercise. Make the Jeep owner go around asking other people what it should be when the link they tell you to go to in the manual is expired. The adventure really does start before you drive it off the lot.

This site is not correct. When I entered in my Jeep it did not take into account if I had the Tow Package or Max Tow Package. I used my VIN to get the info. I also manually put in the info and got different info back.

Camping world says 7000. I will consider it gospel because they are willing to write it down.

It may work for the JT in this case but I wouldn’t use that site as gospel…. It says my Ram can tow 19,980 lbs where as Ram says just a hair over 10,000lbs. Big, big difference.

Stellantis has a publicly available site that spits out your tuck’s data in JSON format, but it only seems to work on the HD side. I’ll drop the link below in case they ever make it open to all Stellantis products.
