Depends for me. Once price is out I'll make a plan to address whether order now or shop the lot in Idaho, or other.

At right price, I will sell / trade and get into payments, on impulse really, and work the rest out later. Gotta have me a JT!

Wrong price I will wait, then pay full, maybe even do a resto, buy it used.

The license is a concern, and need to research tax too.

pretty sure I read the deal with financing in Idaho was you had to keep it in place for 3 months. Even at a high APR 3 months won't make a huge difference. Then just pay it off or refi with your local bank/cu

do banks ever make you "buy points" on a vehicle loan like they do with mortgages?

Sounds like you can also make a very large payment the first month, which would bring total interest charged to close to zero (interest on full amount first month, then interest on a near zero balance until you can actually close the account in 3-6 mo). This assumes you don't need financing...

Can you elaborate? Like, give an example if this is a $50,000 loan at 3% for 72 months? Do you mean pay $47,000 the first month, and then the interest is only on $3,000 for the next 2-5 months?

That is what he means. Although in the current environment if you found a 3% auto loan I would not be in a hurry to pay that off as I think I could use the cash to invest somewhere with returns greater than 3%.

I don’t claim to know every bank’s lending policy however I am generally not aware of buying points with auto finance like with a mortgage.

The bigger concern with buying from Idaho is the time and money involved with the travel. One way flight, lodging on the road trip home, meals, gas, time off for said road trip. Those concern me more than the must use our financing clause.

Another slight concern is service/repairs/warranty work. Will your local dealer be all butt hurt and make you last priority or provide substandard work? They shouldn’t but they will be aware you didn’t buy from them.

Yes, what homerun said. Found lots of examples on the Wrangler forum about dealing with the ID dealers. Sounds like they require financing through their dealer, and interest rates are crazy high (6-8%, even with 800 credit rating). Saw that accounts need to be open 3-6 months. So if you don't require financing (but need to finance to purchase through them), make a large payment on the first bill. Then the following months the interest portion of the payment is much lower. Depends on the rates/terms/rules in place when you pick up the vehicle.

I did contact Kent at Peterson yesterday. He put me on their list, but hard to talk numbers until pricing is available. He's still indicating pricing/order banks open Feb 1, so I guess we'll see next week.

I'm also waiting for the Ecodiesel option. We currently have a 2015 Ram Ecodiesel and really like it. Due to the emissions settlement, I'm planning to keep the truck much longer than I originally anticipated since Ram is extending parts of the warranty to 4 years/120,000 miles. In the meantime, I'm saving $250 per month towards a Gladiator down payment. I guessing the diesel option won't be available until the 2020 model. And at this rate, I want the diesel to be out for one year before I purchase. So, I'm looking at a 2021 Gladiator if everything works out as planned.

So this seems interesting. We all know the 3.0 and several of the colors will be delayed availability, but according the the Chicago auto show the Sport S and Overland trims will also be delayed. Then again I have seen so many incorrect facts in various articles I would take this with a grain of salt, but who knows. I am getting a manual Rubicon anyway but I feel for those set on the Sport S or Overland.

I had also heard several weeks ago that the Sport S and Overland would be delayed launch, but don't remember the source. Didn't matter to me much since I'm looking at a Rubi, so read it and forgot about it.

Something else I've wondered about is if there will be varying "late availability" (i.e. late, late late, and really late). They've had Gobi, Sting-Gray, and Punk'n at various auto shows, so it seems that those colors are somewhat ready to paint. AFAIK, I haven't seen Granite, Hydro Blue, or Gator out in the wild (there were some photos of a Gator being built). So wonder if those last 3 colors will be "late late availability". Since the diesel isn't even an option in the worthless build tool, it will likely be "really late availability".

Once I get my Gladiesel... (yep you heard it here first) I will be loving it for its rock crawling, boat ramp pulling, mud hole emptying Torque!
Mileage, cost per mile, service intervals, fuel range are all secondary to me.

The whole point for purchasing a Rubicon is traction. Think claws sinking through flesh until they hook some bones...traction.
The whole point for purchasing a diesel is torque. Think 10k lb winch double snatch-blocked to locomotive... unstoppable.
Traction and Torque just go together like peanut butter and jelly.

Question is, can I save up enough money for the Banks Powerpack, and airock lift?

I e-mailed him. His reply:
Unfortunately it's a moving target. It was supposed to be Feb 1st but now I'm hearing March.

So basically his guess is as good as anyone else on this forum...
