Pet Transport Question

Does anyone drive with their pets in the bed of the truck? If so, do you mind sharing pics and/or safety advice?

I bought my Gladiator last year to tow our camper and enjoy on camping trips. It’s been great but with 3 dogs and 2 kids, we always make multiple trips to the campsite and that’s become tiresome.

First, check your State and local laws. In some areas it is illegal to transport a dog in the open bed of a pickup truck. Yes, I know people do it. But yes I know it can be a HUGE ticket, vehicle impoundment, loss of dogs, and possible jail time.

If transporting in the bed, it is better to have a cap on it with some form of ventilation. The pets should be in crates that are anchored to the bed.

If I needed them out the cab, soft topper at min, crate, with a bed for them.

I ordered a hard cap specifically for this. I plan to get a hardshell crate and strap it down in the front center of the bed. Haven't decided yet if she'll be on a tether inside the crate or not. I'd have to be convinced it would actually provide a benefit.

Thank you. "Enclosed" seems to be the key to lawfully transporting pets in the bed of a truck here.

While I awaited my canopy, I secured my dogs crate using carabiners to the side rail. I also had a insulated crate cover in case I went to the mountains Or if the weather was bad when I hunted.

with the canopy, I still have the dog in the crate secured in similar fashion. As I was rear ended last summer, I was grateful the dog was in the crate and the crate was secured. I did get better carabiners as the original ones were cheap key chain types and broke……

Dog is fine, though I was very concerned about him.

If I could offer one thing from a friend that passed in a horrific car accident. Her dog was in a crate that was bolted to the floor of the SUV and was the only family member that lived. Mine have travelled in their crates ever since.

Yeah, they make really good impact rated crates specifically for this application. They're worth every penny.
