I found my solution:

RAM 1" tough-ball with 1/4-20 thread 1/2 inch length mounted into the passenger grab bar. Model is RAP-B-379U-252050. Purchased from OC Mounts for $8.99 plus $2.85 shipping. This was a much better price than the CMM ball.

I am using this with the RAM short double socket arm and the RAM Quick Grip XL phone holder with ball. I bought those together from Amazon for $15 and $24, respectively.

Now that I know the RAM ball fits the grab bar, I plan to buy another for the right side for a passenger to hold their phone or for an additional cup holder.

I understand that the threading of the RAM tough ball doesn't match the factory bolt, but it fits nice and snug.

Are you happy with that phone mount? I just found that all the parts I need are available at 67 designs (maybe others too, but I've found them there) so I'm fixing to start ordering parts - I'm leaning pretty heavy to that phone holder...

Has anyone mixed/matches pieces from different manufacturers before? Considering just returning the BulletProof (although it was a gift, so that might complicate things) and going with a full solution from someone else.
67D, Bulletproof and Tackform all offer 20mm balls so yes you can mix and match mounts, arms and device holders.

Very happy. I just set it up today, so time will tell if the parts will last. Initial impression is very positive. I went RAM for the price and thought I might find more accessories in the 1-inch size than 20mm.

I picked up the Bulletproof JT-specific dash bracket with 2 balls. It's smaller than a RAM ball, so they aren't compatible, which sucks. I want to use my existing Proclip dock, which the phone slides into easily, and automatically connects to the USB cable that's in the dock. I also have a GPS/satellite communicator to mount on the second ball, and that has its own dedicated dock too. I'm probably going to see if I can just replace the balls with RAM items to solve the problem.

67D sells conversion ends to 1" if you need it.

So does bulletproof: (or now bulletpoint)

Ah, thanks, didn't notice that on their site. I have one RAM ball laying around, maybe, but this could be simpler.

This is the charger and mount that I initially used.
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MX1YXNS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Later, I replaced the arm with a Ram mount:
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B009SX0J88/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&psc=1
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B007EZPLFS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It serves same function, but it gives a bit more adjustability. Also, I ended up using E6000 to glue the base because the mount kept falling off the plastic dash (even after cleaning it with alcohol and acetone).

Yes! I use it every time I drive. Like I mentioned, I used E6000 adhesive to attach the Ram ball mount because the double sided tape, no matter how I cleaned the surface and no matter how strong, would keep falling off after a while. The E6000 adhesive has been great. Also, because the mount is rubbery and the panel it attaches to is flexible, the phone will shake a bit, but it is very secure in the mount (has a very strong grip). I haven't found another mount that doesn't obstruct view, doesn't obstruct vents, has wireless charging, and is conveniently within comfortable reach. Very discrete and functional.

Updating.
iphone 12 Pro Max.
Nato charger mount less secure than Nato XL due to metal ring in stead of plate for the magnet. It allows it to charge, but it does not charge. Might need better 12v or cable, but the Qi charger is weak compared to plugging in directly to a cable in rear console/dash. Have not tried it with lighter adapter.

Ordered Magsafe charger from apple and:

Quarble Magsafe dash holder.

Will update once installed.

I’m 100% satisfied with my $16 Solution...

Holds a drink, well made, can hold the phone sideways as well, not in my field of view, doesn’t stick out too far like some.

I bought https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MNV2MMW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 but the phone mount doesn't open wide enough to accept my phone. Does anyone know of a mount that will screw on to a ball less I already have the tray installed and its much deeper than the stock one.
I tried this and ended up returning it because it bothered me it was in my field of view. The gladiator dash is kinda high anyways, this puts it right in the middle of windshield which was annoying for me...
