I drove a Gladiator Rubicon today AND a Ford Raptor. I'm replacing the functionality of a JKU and an F350 diesel.

I'm only towing a 20' master craft or a 21' bass boat these days, so either truck will work. I wanted to love the Raptor - but don't. It seemed comfortable, but I don't know, it seemed overpriced for what it really is...

I wanted to eliminate the Gladiator because it's just a "fun" car. But after driving it, I can't stop thinking that it's the right choice and COULD work as my main driver.

Billet Silver, fully loaded Rubicon - only options missing - speaker and tonneau cover....and for a heck of a good price. In fact the best price I've seen around here.

I walked away to think about it overnight. Push me over the edge!!

I have a 2017 Raptor and a Gladiator Rubicon i spend more time driving the Gladiator and plan on selling the Raptor. This is just me others might think i`m crazy.

No, but it can do it with the top on. I assumed you meant mechanically--can it do it.

I had a 2012 Rubi lifted 4" with tons of armor and I did some crazy stuff with it, but I did so with the top on.

Cool with the top off, but that could be a pic in the driveway. I assumed you meant could it drive over that rock, which it can do.

What $ are you getting it for? If it's really a great deal and you pass on it I'll be there Monday to take your place!

I have a 2016 X6 with the 440hp v8.
I ordered a Gladiator but did not trade it in because I didn't know if I would be able to drive the JT all the time, and figured I could figure it out before I decided what to do (work pays for the X6, its complicated)
After a month, i find myself missing the Gladiator when i switch.
Except for the Camaro dusting power, that is.
The Gladiator just feels like it fits me better and the command of the road and electronics are better.

my only concern is that the Gladiator may not be that great pulling a boat 6 hours across the state....or going over a mountain pass... That is my only hesitation.

You wont have any problems pulling either of those boats with gladiator, not even a base sport with no max tow let alone a rubicon. The raptor is an awesome truck but gotta ask yourself when is the next time you will doing 100 plus across the desert.. if the answer is this weekend then go with the raptor, if the answer is never then you wont regret going with the gladiator.

The Raptor is not that great at towing it has pre runner type suspension it`s super soft and sort of floats thus the reason it can do what it does in the desert and is the reason it has a low tow rating as compared to a regular F-150. Power wise no question it will leave the Gladiator in the dust but in the case of the Gladiator part of the allure is the 3.6 motor it`s almost perfect for off roading and everyday driving, power and torque are not everything in the case of the Gladiator.

Another thing to consider is the width of the Raptor in day to day driving and parking. Coming from a F-350 I enjoy the smaller size of the Glad. I still have the F-350 but I rarely drive it now that I have the Jeep.

Being fun is the reason to do it, not the reason to rule it out. Smaller and more nimble than the raptor will make the every day practicality much higher than the raptor. You'll miss the 350 towing the boat but the gladiator will get the job done. Do it, do it!
