For anyone who purchased their gladiator far from home. For instance those flew out to Gupton and drove it home. Ive heard its bad to drive a brand new car at highway speeds without breaking it in or seating the rings for a few weeks. I even seen a member on here, say they avoided the highway and drove side roads and streets all the the way home from the dealer for hours. Did you guys just say screw it and get on the freeway? Is it really all that bad for a brand new Gladiator? I was looking to have mine shipped to me but shippers are like a 6 week wait from when mine will be able to be picked up so im considering driving it back across the country. Thanks In advance.

I'm sure it's fine, but I still drove back roads at 55 or less varying the rpm and enjoying the scenery for the recommended mileage on my way back home from Gupton. There are some pretty roads. When I hit the mileage then it was straight to I-75 and 70-80 mph.

I picked mine up nearly 2-years ago and drove it from North Carolina to Boston.

I kept it at 55MPH for the ride.

2-years later, no problems at all.

So you hit the freeway I take it but you just kept it in slow lane the whole way home? Or did you just take normal roads?

The most important miles to a motor are the first 20. I did my usual, warm up the motor for the first eight miles and then do a couple partial (50%) throttle pulls up to about 4K rpms and allowing the motor to drop down to 2.5k rpms. Do that about five times and that will set the rings. After that, I changed my speed from 60-80 mph on the way from Gupton back to St. Louis. I’ve done this with many cars and never had a motor burn any oil.

So are you asking about following the proper break-in procedure after purchasing a brand new vehicle? If so you can read about that here https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/forum/threads/gladiator-engine-break-in.48896/ or in your manual.

Thanks. Don't have a manual yet so that helped. I'm also wondering if everyone who got their gladiator far from home followed the break in procedure. If my wife ends up picking it up I'm sure she will just drive the damn thing lol

Picked it up in SLC. Drove it to another forum members place. Put on the rock rails I got off him. Got on the 80 west. Cruise control the whole way. 80+ mph

I picked mine up in Crittenden, KY and drove it 250 miles to my mother's house in southern Illinois before hitting the 600 miles to my home in SE Alabama a few days after visiting with my mom. It already had 35 miles on it and the first 50 miles from the dealer were back roads before hitting the interstate. Once I hit the interstate I just cruised the speed limit with occasional speed-ups and slow-downs. No issues 17,000 miles later.

Picked up my eco-diesel Thursday then drove over 700 miles home. It had 17 miles on it. I drove it home at the speed limit, per the manual that’s totally fine.

So you are driving it home after all hahahaha
Maybe lol! Im kind of in a mess, when i finally got the word it was for sure on the way to the dealer... all the shippers are saying give them 6 weeks or so to pick it up! i figure in a week i will be contacted by Gupton to do the financing and paper work, then a few days for him to get my check. Im not sure i want it just sitting on his lot for 4 weeks until somone can get it. He said its fine if its payed for but that sucks. What happened with your Gupton pick up?

Its looking that way. I was wanting to save my vacation time for a real vaction with the family, my wife wants to go so that means finding pet sitters last minute lol. Maybe the shipper i went with can get to it sooner than their worst case estimate.
