First off, TY for adding me to the JT forum here!

I bought a used 2020 JTR, 3.6L, auto, 29k miles, a couple months ago (which by the way I'm absolutely loving!), and just recently ran the VIN to check what came stock from the factory, and I see under the build sheet that it has a 22 gallon gas tank (like I believe they all do), but under "optional equipment" I see listed about a dozen lines from the bottom "4 additional gallons of gas".

So, my question is.... does this just mean it arrived with an additional 4 gallons of gas (~1/5 tank) in the gas tank upon delivery to the dealership? , or... do I have a 26 gallon gas tank?

Obviously, I could run it almost out if gas, and then refuel, but so far, I haven't let it drop below ~ 1/2 tank of fuel before refilling, and it took ~12 gallons to refill the tank that time, if i remember correctly, so that really doesn't answer the question either.

The four gallons of gas is an accounting thing for the initial fill up at the factory when built. It is not added capacity.

Welcome! Search here about gas tank capacity, seems like no matter how low my tank is even way down on the miles to empty, I have never got much more then 18.5 gallons. Usable 22-24 gallons would be nice but then we have to remember we are driving small skinny Jeeps, not much room under there…..Jack

Yeah, if it's like my wife's JKU it'll show empty, and tell you that you're out of gas when you still have another 2-3 gallons left in the tank.

This.

A sister company of ours did a 'project' once. Someone there realized they were not charging customers for the initial fill up of diesel when building their trucks - so they went in an added the line into the sales orders.

Probably easiest $60K a year they ever saved/recouped.

Funny thing is none of the other fluids are accounted for like that. I know that DANA ships the axles full and that leaves coolant, brake fluid, transfer case and transmission fluid that must be rolled into some other part cost.

Makes me wonder if fuel is line item out separate to minimize pilfering.

Unlike many of the other components, the fuel tank cannot be shipped with or have fuel put in it prior to installation. It has to be accounted for as a separate line item and added after installation.
