Any interest in seeing Centralia? It is 20 mins away from AOAA. Maybe a Sunday morning drive through? It is the coal town that has been burning since 1962. Not a lot to see if you don't walk Graffiti Rd. but if you haven't been and are this close.....

I may be wrong, but last I heard, Graffiti Rd is no more. They covered over it with truck loads of dirt and gravel... I'll double check with some buddies that live a little closer than I do.

Know how the fire was started? The coal mines were thought to be mined out. They decided the bury trash in the mine and the town started to stink. To take care of the smell, they decided to light the trash on fire. Turns out there was more coal.

I went years ago in a TJ, and it was very cool. The article I saw about the closure mentioned that basically folks started trashing the place the last few years, and not showing respect. Folks were trashing the cemetery and everything. So they brought in a bunch of loads of backfill and blocked it all off. It's a shame the way people treat things, that it had to come to that.

Isn't there an abandoned highway tunnel somewhere in western PA that they had to close off because people were trashing it?

Yeah, it was out near Jamestown, PA (I believe) it was part of the PA turnpike and used until (I think) the late 60's when the newer turnpike bypassed that town. I seem to remember as a little kid going camping going through that tunnel. I've seen occasional articles about it on FB (Vintage news, etc.).

So, plans are 6th at RC and 7th at AOAA.
RC is open 8-5, AOAA is open 9-6
AOAA is $33 for the day
RC is $56
Should we shoot for 9:00am both days? If we all go, it looks like 17 vehicles so 2 groups? Meet up for lunch and decide what trails for afternoon that way people can stay the same or move up or whatever.
@Knightindullarmor are you still coming? Do you want to lead? I have no problem bringing up the rear.

Hate to be a downer but early forecast is for 70% rain next Saturday. It's early yet but still something to watch.

I'm trying to shift a few things around to do both RC and AOAA. Where are folks staying between days?
