I currently own a 2021 high altitude that is pretty stock except for cosmetic upgrades. I would like to make the jump to 35s. I found a 2021 Mojave with similar options to my current high altitude that I can trade into for around 4K. The only negative is that it has 29k miles vs the 21k miles on my current gladiator. Do I keep the high altitude and regear, or trade for the Mojave? Thanks in advance for the advice!

If you are going to trade, go for something newer with less miles.

You can do a regear, if it's needed, for less than it will cost to do a trade.

Make your changes, and then see what the performance hit actually is.

Unless there is more reason for the trade - you want/need the rear locker or the mojave shocks. I would suggest staying High. You have a very low mileage rig to build on

Rehear around here will run ya 3700 plus. I’m partial to the Mojave but either route will net ya what ya want so

OP, also consider that the need for regearing is often sold as a necessary when it's really subjective. There are people running 37s on the 3.73s that feel fine with it. I imagine it feels like my old tacoma did on 34s. Some people hate it some don't mind. I wouldn't worry too much about 35s on the 3.73s, the 8 speed does pretty good with managing the size. I can still get 20mpg with 35s on my JTM, granted it's on 4.10s, these trucks are quite remarkable out of the box.

Also, purchasing a different truck would also include docs and licensing fees, typically 500ish. As well as sales tax on the trade to purchase difference, if your in a sales tax state.

Thanks for the advice so far! Gut says stay with the high altitude, wanted to get some additional input.
If the only reason you’re considering the Mojave is the 4.10 gears then stick with your lower mileage High Altitude. Once you put your 35s on you can decide for yourself if a regear is necessary.

A lot of 35s are actually 34s, which may not require a regear... Specially if for looks only mod.

Depends on what you're after. Keeping the truck you know can make sense. Just remember after spending $3k+ on a re-gear your Altitude still books for the same value. Trading for the Mojave might give you better resale in the future, plus you get tougher frame, gearing, locker and a non functioning hood scoop that looks cool as hell. Can also put 35's on the mojave without a lift. I could argue either side I guess lol.

I agree with Firehawkcpo and Riverdog in their statements as to do the regear. i would change one thing. Most people believe you should go to a locker for the back. However, i would change this to a Detroit Truetrac which is a helical-gear style, limited-slip differential and this gives a person the best of both worlds. an open rear end for normal driving and when needed a diff that will lock up for those times in snow as well as offroad. the total cost would be about the same as buying the Mojave and you would keep all of the changes you have made to your present vehicle.

I lean toward keeping it and re gear but there are factors to consider
- intended use - daily driver, towing, trails, rocks?
- terrain - mountains and hills need re gear much more than flat land
- is 35 really the size tire you want ? Or are you going to go to 37s?
You can always put the 35s on and drive it around to decide if you want to invest in gears.

Finally, my public service announcement - I recommend you (and everyone) don’t use Yukon brand gears. https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/forum/threads/yukon-gear-fail-at-50k-miles.88590/

OP has a High Altitude, so already has wide axles.
