Random thought/question/idea.

Has anyone modified (or are there any aftermarket items out there) their rear glass on the hardtop. I hate the little slider window. I know with a removable top there is no way to have it be some sort of retractable power glass... would there be anyway to modify to make the back glass 'removable'? Totally off the top of my head and proably impractical/impossible... but i'm thinking like a solid piece of glass, with some latches (like the clamp on the windshield channel). 4 of those to pressure hold the back glass in.

my ideal summer setup would be... hardtop ON, with no rear glass, and doors off. thats what spurred the idea. I liked running a safari top style (no windows or doors) in my old JKU... but my bald head and desire for shade likes some head cover.... and also i dont really want to remove or have to store the hardtop , as i realize there are summer top options that would sort of check off this wish.

Anyway, i need a drink, this is probably a dumb idea.... but here we are anyway... HAPPY TUESDAY.

I've always wished it was powered. Can't reach back there to open or close it when driving. Even though the top is removable, it could have been motorized. The doors come off and they have power windows.
very true. if it were separate from the hard top shell, and power down into the body when top if off (or you want it open)... would be amazing... at this point, i'd be happy with some sort of aftermarket removable window panel <shrug> missed opportunity i feel.

There's power for the defroster, there's no reason they couldn't have included some sort of electric motor power as well. The only reason I believe they didn't do it is because said motor would have to be hidden somewhere and the barebones back cap doesn't really have a clean way to do it.

Reading this makes me think of the Emergency pop out glass in RV trailers, two hinges (could be modified to be something else) on the top, and two latches on the bottom to secure in place. This might work, just pop the seats down, disconnect the latches at the bottom of the window and pull out to have an opening, the only issue would be the added rigidity of the glass would be removed from the top, but I suspect this to be minimal unlike what the windshield would provide., anyway, just my 2c

Perhaps a design similar to the ISS hatches. The entire window slides forward, parallel to the opening for an inch or so, then the rollers in the guide tracks allow it to go up and rotate forward with the outer surface facing the hard top. The standard style port is an eyesore, IMO.

Not a dumb idea at all. I would love to be able to pop the rear glass with the top on and doors off.

So let me start a rumor... I was asked to participate in an internal Jeep survey a couple of months back concerning future hardtop options. Some of the questions concerned hardtop modularity - rear passenger removable panels (like the front), and removable rear glass. I do not believe there was a NDA attached to the survey - I hope this post doesn't get me in trouble.

Could this be on its way in 2022? GOD I HOPE SO! And Jeep if you are listening I am happy to field test... if I can keep it! lol

I'm actually kind of surprised it doesn't come apart further. Being able to remove the rear window and corners along with the rear overhead section, but be able to run the overhead like a hard safari top, would be a thing of beauty for multiple reasons.

1 - Easier to remove
2- Easier to store when removed

I think I’m going to remove the rear glass and put an accordion boot on for a pass through to the camper shell. But I really want to find pics of someone else trying it first! If anyone has seen it please send it my way.

Also count me in too for a vote for retractable window.
