Recall # 21D - Anyone completed recall process for electric hydraulic power steering pump?

Got my letter the other day. Called the dealer today, and have an appointment on 8/4 at 8am. Dealer said it should only take an hour.

Waitaminute run that by me again. You took your jeep in and they did an online inspection. How does that even work? I’ve heard of working remotely before but that’s insane!!

Got an e mail from Jeep Service that stated I had the recall and to call Dealer for appointment. I called my Dealer and they said parts are not available at this time wait until you actually get a letter in the mail and call back then.

Did anyone see dirt road cred's latest yt video? They give an update on this recall. From what I understand, the inspection is only looking for corrosion on the affected part(s). If none is present you are deemed 'fixed' and good to go. If corrosion is present, again according to the yt video, they keep your jeep until parts are available. Not sure how that would work, or even if they can do that, but that's what was on the video.

I just called my local dealership and scheduled an appointment. Earliest they had was almost a month out, but I did make the appointment.

Curious to know if anyone else has seen this or knows anything different.

If you FAIL........ they order the parts and you have to schedule another appointment to get the work done, They don't have the parts in house ahead of time.

So.... If its corrosion they're looking for.......... How does that work?
I have a 2024 with only 18,500 miles on it. It's parked in the garage all the time.
I can't imagine there's much 'corrosion' under the hood on a normal day.
But then again, if they're spending 45-60 minutes looking at shit, I surely hope they're digging deep enough and know what to look for.

I looked back at the official document. I didn't see anything about corrosion - but I didn't read it like I was studying for a test.

They are looking for a connector that is not properly connected to the power steering pump, or a connector body / harness with damage, and that the harness is routed correctly.

Now, if the connector is damaged, corrosion could occur at the pump or harness (not sealed / moisture can get in). So, they are looking for corrosion I suppose - but only secondarily. What they are likely more concerned with is evidence of electrical arcing.

If the pump has any signs of damage, or the harness has any signs of damage, the pump and harness gets replaced.

It's a very easy / obvious inspection to perform for anyone mechanically inclined.

Also it appears they leave the old harness in the truck because its part of a larger assembly, and they just cut off the power eyelet, ground eyelet, and the connector at the pump and heat shrink it all off - then the new harness goes in over the old one.

Good to know, thx! So it sounds like they don't 'keep' your jeep until it's fixed then. Makes more sense.

Turns out they have a mobile service, so I scheduled the tech to come to my workplace Monday morning. The service rep said part of the service involves a software update. Has anyone else been told that? I’m wonder if the software update kills the power to the pump when the vehicle isn’t running….

Yeah, I was told if it failed the test, it would need to be towed and they would arrange for a loaner vehicle.

The power steering pump power connector appears to go directly back to the J-case fuse array. Appears to be hot all the time. This does not appear to change that.

I didn't see anything about a software update in the documentation, but dealers may be taking this as an opportunity to make sure you're vehicle has the latest updates - even if unrelated.
