Jeep has really screwed this all up, but like my sales guy said this AM - the recon package is selling like hotcakes, it's extremely popular. They had one guy who wanted one last month and didn't want to wait so they got one from KC for him. They sell almost as fast as they come in.
But Jeep has made it all confusing and messy and not making anything clear to customers. Order stripes and you lose the transmission choice, order this, and you lose these three things.
Apparently, you can't get the Rubicon X JLU without the whole shooting match and everything that comes with it. I can't even seem to build one that is all body color. It's just not possible with an automatic and 3.6 engine (or even the turbo 4 which I'd take without problem in her vehicle)
I'm on the online builder now, scratching my head going who the hell came up with this mess 🤣

This kind of crap alone would make a person not want to buy another one these things.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, I was spec'ing an F150 the other day and they give you so many piece meal options you can mix and match that it will make your head spin.

They must be sitting on an Everest sized pile of manual transmissions and trying to poorly lure folks into ordering them 😂

I'm sure glad their web people aren't the same who program the BCM, ABS and so on................. or are they????????????????

You go to build a vehicle on any other make site - piece of cake. Then go to the Jeep build site and I wonder if it was something done by a 5 year old.
Go to Ford, or Chevy, build your vehicle and order it, no issues..
That's literally impossible with Jeep! No way to build and order from that mess.

Have them dealer locate one for you. We rarely had to order vehicles and found what the customer wanted had them shipped in from all over the country.

We have to compromise - on the JLU side of things, there is ONE WAY and one way only to get the full time transfer case...........
that's a Rubicon X - which comes only with the 35" recon package.
There's no other way to get it.
To get that auto transfer case, you must get the full recon package, nothing less.
Since the Jeep.com site sucks for build accuracy, I can't tell if there is any way to get a fully loaded JLU with full body color roof and fenders, NO sky roof thingy.......... but with all of the other bells and whistles.
If I add an automatic, it strips it down to its underwear so you can't really build one on the internet.

Well if they did attempt a locate for you, you’d have access to the window stickers. They can easily print them off. It would be a lot more clear than the website.

I've looked at what's on the dealer lots - nothing in reign that has body color roof and fender flares, active safety group, power leather seats, convenience group, towing, etc.
They are all lacking at least one or two of those things.

Thats stupid of Jeep to set it up like that. Order the regular one then have a full time transfer case installed later at the dealer .

Dealers here won't touch such a change. This is Iowa. If it's not stock, forget it. They wouldn't know how anyway.

I just found out on the dark side (LOL - the Wrangler side) that there are only TWO ways to get the power seats -
Sahara
Rubicon X package which forces the recon package onto you.

Jeep may have forced us to tell them to fuck off, we'll keep this one and I'll find someone to install the auto-high beams and power seats.
I'm about done with their fucking around on options and models.

Not that it matters, but I would tell corporate they lost a $70k sale because if you want the $3000 upgrade to an automatic transmission, they force you to accept a $300 DOWNGRADE to the black hardtop. It's not like the hard tops are different between the AT and MT transmissions.

Way cheaper than buying a new Jeep anyway.

I've wondered about buying one with everything, such as a Rubicon that's otherwise loaded, body color roof and fender flares, 33" tires, active safety group, towing, whatever, and then finding a shop that would add in the power seats.
That would give her the better cargo area (she always complains about the big 8" battery shelf in the back cargo area), all of the newer air bags, steering, auto-high beams, body color parts - if all they lack is the power seats, surely there's someone out here who can add them.
May have to hire a build done.

I should tell them that in a sense - it's adaptive equipment since my wife is limited on her license to an automatic and can't use the seat adjusting bars that are 1" from the floor instead of where someone can reach them -

I wonder just how expensive/difficult it would be to retrofit the OEM ones? The way these things are built, if the full harness isnt already there, there is probably an open plug and a power seat harness that plugs into it. The bottom half the the mount is also likely going to be the same, maybe even the top half? Would certainly make sense from to minimize SKUs as much as possible.
