One thing my wife insisted on was the safety stuff....... I checked the other stuff but she "told me" the JT would have the safety stuff. After having it on her Grand Cherokee, and after my Dad was killed by a sleeping driver that crossed the center line over to the other shoulder - I believe all vehicles should have at least some of those features. If I was looking to buy used - I'd pay more for one with those things now and I wish the JT had lane departure built in.
I know two people who would be alive, and another who went into a care facility at age 18 who would not be there had vehicles been equipped with certain safety things. Mercedes has for years.
More sleeping idiots and distracted drivers and those who never paid attention in class on the roads these days - since they won't take those people off the roads, at least make the vehicles compensate for their lack of caring for others on the road.
That's my take.......
Yeah, at first I was a little upset that I had to add something I didn't plan on adding..but after thinking about ..all things considered its probably for the best. I mean i ended up being "told' I needed to get leather seats just to have the rear armrest cup holders.... least I can do is pay a little more for something that might actually be important =P

But that's not at all new - it's been that way since my first cars in the 70s. Jeep didn't invent that. It's especially true with interior and appearance packages and "convenience" things. I could point to similar requirements for any of my classic cars. Want the gauges and not lights? you get a package. Want heavier duty suspension? That's part of a big performance pack - the go-pack. Want the arm rest? Then you order an SST - can't get it any other way and that comes with different wheels and stainless trim. The cup holders - LOL - I could take you back 20 years on that one.
All Jeep is doing is what all auto makers have done for decades.

Are they still forcing these options?

They could have forced basically any other $800-1000 option, and I would just suck it up. I'm ready to order, but I really don't want the safety package.

Totally agree with you; except for the Adaptive Cruise, which I like the idea of actually; just don't particularly like where they had to locate it or really want it on this type of vehicle. That's just me though.

Dunno if they're still forcing these, but I'm guessing yes.

I didn’t want them either but was forced. And now that I have it I really like It. It’s not so bad to have. My dealership worked with me on the price too.

I could be wrong but adaptive cruise is not part of the active safety group which is now required. Active safety includes rear park assist, blind spot monitoring, and cross path detection. Adaptive cruse and active braking is an additional package that, to my knowledge, is not required.

You are correct, it’s a separate item.

Does anyone know if the safety group is a new permanently required package or is there a chance it will not be required at some point ?

This is what I want to know. I'm currently holding off on ordering until the safety package is optional.

I started mine with my phone the other day (granted, it's Overland, but still.........) and it took 30 seconds for the command to get through and you have to use a PIN for security but it worked. I figured if I was not yet retired and wanted to start my vehicle out in the parking lot I could. Quite a few people tried to get to work early to park in the "better spots" because they were visible from the building - with this setup that isn't necessary. It's uconnect through the free trial period but heck, while it lasts. I also figure if I'm ever at a place where it's hard to find the truck (HAHAHA - like you can't easily pick out a hydro blue pearl JT in a crowd) I could use my phone to flash lights and honk the horn to find it. (ADHD - I forget where I parked and have trouble finding things so for now am thankful there are few of these in parking lots)
Man I have Uconnect on my Ram and I gotta say it sucks. That thing would unlock or flash lights or won't do anything through the phone. Have been to the dealership, etc. they say nothing they can do its a Uconnect problem. I have to actually delete the app and reload it every other week cause it stops functioning. Not very impressed with it.

And yet we accept the fact that in most other cases to get X you must also choose Y and don't say anything about it. We let the system add that. There are examples of that with every vehicle - if you want this, you must have that.
I think the idea is hitting because it appears to be new or a change. Had these things been build with LED for certain levels with no exceptions, no one would say a thing - it would be built into the pricing and package.
We see it - I think that's the real issue. If they are going to require something be part of a package, hide the bloody price, stick it in with something else to prevent anyone seeing the change.
Force it from day one and no one says a thing - make a change half-way and people see it as such and don't like it.
I was forced to get certain things to have other stuff I did want - this doesn't seem to be that much different to me.
Yep they could just include the safety package and LED lights as standard build it into the price and just do like the other car dealerships do. They just tell you its all standard now but in the back of your mind you know they have jacked the price up some.

I checked our ordering system here and it only shows the Remote Proximity Entry being a required option on Rubicon
