I've used mine in my Gladiator enough that it feels pretty smooth. Got in my wife's Wrangler and I was like WTH??? lol They get better with usage.

From 2H to 4H you can be in 'Drive' (...up to 45mph). To go into 4L, you must put it in 'Neutral'.
Furthermore, the manual says to let ‘er roll 1-2MPH while shifting into 4L

I was standing on the dead pedal and practically lifting out the my seat on the first try. it much better now. I have a straight run before I reach my driveway and I practice occasionally.

I use mine for surf fishing, I let the Glad move forward as I shift from 2 H to 4 H. It's very smooth. But if I try to do it not moving it is stiff. 4 L is another animal, main trans in neutral then aux to 4 L.

If I’m stopped and in neutral no problem whatsoever going into 4L, never had any issues going into 4H either, just pull back assertively

You don't have to stop for 2H to 4H, just slow down.

Tug on that shifter, it's going to be tight the first handful of times. The more you shift in and out of 4H the easier it gets. You're not going to break anything unless you're doing running from the cops speed.

BOOK also says it's easier when things are warmed up........

"Back in the day" words than mean I'm old, you'd have to get a front tire up on a curb and have two friends help you shift into 4H...............
What garbage did you drive with a transfer case that bad?

He might have had one of these - and I ended up with them for parts or repair.
Some of the Dodge trucks and Jeeps I worked on in the 70s and 80 were worn that bad, but people kept on driving them.
