Should I switch from a JL 4xe to a JT Mojave?

Just traded our 4xe for a Mojave last week. Loving the Mojave. Miss that highway onramp acceleration the 4xe had for sure. Ride quality is similar. Only 500 miles on the Mojave, MPG is in the 15-17.5 range so far. I missed having a truck so I'm really enjoying it. The 4xe is a beast in its own right though. Love the tiny but useful storage space under and behind the rear seat. The 4xE's interior storage space was abysmal with the battery taking up a bunch of room.

Do i love my Mojave? Yes? Is it slow as balls for a sporty dune truck? also yes. I'll be AMW 392 swapping mine. Which at that point will bring me up to should've just bought a 392 wrangler. But i want a truck. If you don't like/want a truck then the Mojave ain't it imo. especially coming from a 4xE which can fuckin scoot or so i've been told. Btw i avg 15.7 mpg on my 30 mile commute. I only see 19-20 mpg on long highway trips.

It's funny how when i was a kid 280 hp was a lot , now its slow compared to what's out there lol

I'm worried they will never get the Gladiator to that level lol , I feel it will only last a few more years . If they they would price it better I'm sure it would sell better though

Hello. New to this forum. Here to pose a question to JT owners.

I currently own a 21 JLU 4xe Rubicon. Factory ordered at 5% below invoice in March 2021. Paid under $45k after my $7,500 tax credit. A deal I’ll never be able to replicate thanks to the seemingly weekly price increases from Jeep. 42,000 miles on it. I’ve got a MOPAR Max Care warranty to take me to 2028 or 100,000 miles. Which is when they project the next Wrangler & Gladiator models to come out

I’m currently dealing with the hybrid battery recall and am not able to charge my Jeep. I’m working with Jeep Wave and am hopeful they will give me a rental soon but I’m not holding my breath. I’m not supposed to park near other vehicles or buildings, which is unrealistic. I drive around 50-80 miles a day for work so not being able to charge has made a big difference on my MPG. Thankfully, I get reimbursed for mileage. Currently averaging around 19MPG. I realize this is about what I’ll get in a JT.

I’m very tempted by the incentives on the 2023 Gladiators. More specially a Mojave. Plenty in stock near me for 20% below MSRP before any other negotiations. I’m hopeful that the incentives will get even better in the coming weeks. I would like the versatility of having a small truck bed, but I’m only really considering at this point because of my hybrid battery recall and because the prices have dropped so much on the 23 Gladiators.

I’m here in hopes that some people will talk some sense into me and tell me I shouldn’t be considering the switch. Prior to my recall and these tempting prices, my plan was to hold onto my Wrangler until 2028/100k miles and by that point I’d probably look into upgrading. I also know I’ll likely be kicking myself when the 4xe Gladiators come out next year… but I doubt they’ll be reasonably priced.

Any input is appreciated.

Well 4 pages of replies, this may get lost in the chatter. I specifically have done this, traded my 4xe Rubicon for a JT with 3.6 gasser.

For me, I wanted the bigger tow rating, my Aliner was fine behind the 4xe (2k trailer) but JT gave me the pickup bed I wanted and I can pull my bigger 6k camper as desired too.

I am hovering about 2k rpm at 70ish on the highway, that is the same for 4xe and if you are driving more that 20 miles per day (and you said 60-80) the electric / hybrid rate of return savings is really small at this point, would take YEARS to have any really savings. You are getting 16-17 mpg with the 4xe, maybe 18 and I am getting 16-17 with the Rubicon JT.

I traded my 4xe with 26k (mine was loaded,70k new I paid 62k, less the 7500 credit, net 55k) and got 43k trade in and bought JT Rubicon with 20k miles on it for 44k so my "net" was about 1k between them and it had 6k less miles on it.

So.. do you want the pickup bed / less room on inside of the vehicle / more towing, if so then JT. WIth 60-80 miles per day the 4xe is not doing you much good. For me early on we drove 20 miles per day or less and 80-90% electric. But then I did a 8000 mile overlanding trip pulling my camper and the 4xe at that point was no better or worse than any other Jeep.

Does anyone ever put bigger/heavIer tires on a 4xe?

39's on a 3" Rock Krawler lift with KMC tank Beadlocks. Still on factory 3.73's still under 7 seconds (Usually closer to 6.5) to 60

LOL - lots of bad info out there. Sure you can drive it. No big deal. You can park it in a garage - probably best to not charge it, but these don't spontaneously combust - none of the fires that we know happened for a fact, happened when being driven or not being charged.
The fix is coming soon - in fact, so far, FCA is ahead of schedule. Notices went out early, it's going to be a fast recall in the grand scheme of things.
Even if ours WAS part of the recall, I'd do only one thing different - park it outside when charging it, then later pull it back into the garage.

Why? Because they don't hang out on forums reading fear mongering junk. They never knew until they got a notice from FCA - they don't hang out on forums where people complain and threaten a law suit any time something doesn't go their way.
Well over 100,000 sold - and only 6 proven fires FCA was interested in. Others are media reported and I have some hesitation to include those because any EV fire is sensational and gets clicks and jabbering out there.

I feel perfectly safe with ours.

Even if ours was part of the recall - I'd keep it, and not change a whole lot except for where it got charged, and perhaps put a temp sensor under the rear seats (I'm a tech geek like my son)

Any Jeep that catches fire is automatically Jeep's fault. Just ask the internet.
But in this case, it's most likely Samsung's fault - they made the batteries, the specs, determined how to charge and so on.
But refer back to sentence one - the 4xe type forums out there are filled with rage, threats, anger, and it's Jeep's fault and Jeep has been sitting on this forever and Jeep is doing nothing and on and on and on and wow, what the hell has social mediocre done to us as humans?
Well, it's shown that it's fun to go around banging on doors in the middle of the night, it's fun to go around loosening lugnuts on random cars, and everything, every idea, even if it was an idea 100 times 50 years ago is a "hack".

It's always panic time with them. They have no clue - heck, incentives could get better, could get worse, or could stay the same - and that's my professional opinion on what they'll do LOL
Everything is "it's the last there is" or "prices are expected to go up next month" with them.

My sales guy tells me "we really don't know until Jeep tells us what's happening - usually on the day it happens". Weird, a salesman telling it like it is??

This. I average 14.5 city....on a long road trip with plenty of 70mph 8th gear I average 17.8.

Stock suspension and A/Ts, 8spd.
