Obscured lights are an issue no matter the cause, mud, snow, ice etc but there are two
'solutions' that I can think of off hand. The first is to drive defensively and that can mean
leaving enough space between you and the vehicle in front, that way you avoid flying debris,
and second just carry a spray bottle with a little water, that's all it takes to wash off the
lights until you can clean the entire vehicle. That's my thought anyhow. As for law enforcement,
well they have good and bad days too, maybe his wife or kids just ... and he needed to vent,
you were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Just to add my 2 cents.....I am a resident of rural Virginia. I learned that you can have aftermarket lights on the front of the vehicle. However, the additional lights need to be covered when on the road. By aftermarket lights, I mean any lights beyond the headlights and driving/fog lights. At least that is what the inspectors told me during the annual inspections.

I was never hassled by state or local Police in my JK with 7" lights added to the front bumper. I passed state police every day in that JK with stone guards on the lights.

Mudflaps required in Hawaii with body lift. Fender extensions required if the tires extend beyond the wheel wells. Part of the annual "safety inspection" is a check for these defects. The safety check venders are required to send pictures of each vehicle to the state. I have a 6" lift on my Tahoe and my AT2's stick out as well. I run rubber fender extensions 365, I have mudflaps that mount in the trailer hitch that I run one day a year. The police don't enforce it but the DOL won't register it for the public roads without that one day of compliance.

Jeep Gladiator So i got pulled over and thrown the book. apparently i need wide vehicle lights? Tahoe lift

Thanks I’ve been seeing this meme but didn’t know the story. Has anyone counted the number of shots fired? Says the cop resigned so there is that.
I count 17 from tactical tumbler. The officer backing him up gets a pass, how was she to know he was completely retarded?

I believe some states require the Fenders or Mud Flaps to be the same width (or greater) than the tires on your vehicle. That typically stops some of the rocks/mud from flying off of your tires which is the justification for that rule/law. It was that way in Illinois years ago when I lived there anyway.
Personally I think that is a better law than having lights at the width of your vehicle, which seems more costly and difficult to do unless your tires are not wider than your fenders.

I get why i got the book. the trail exit was right onto the blueridge parkway. A lot of bikes ride there and debris is an issue for them. But aside from the gravel that came with my tires, nothing else fell off. and I was the only one pulled over out of my group. all 4 of my buddies just kept on going, they were just as muddy. I heckled to death when i met up at the wash.
If you were on the parkway was this a federal ranger that pulled you, or state / local? Federal Rangers have zero tolerance. Just curious, thanks

i miss Oklahoma
This is a brand new sentence. I've been to Oklahoma, even lived there as a kid. This is a place where the US Army said, "We need a place we can blow up every week with heavy artillery fire and no one will care" so they build Fort Sill in Oklahoma.

no it was a state trooper. I've never had a ranger pull me over. I was exiting a trail onto the parkway. It was close to highway 56. I didn't expect to see him out there. maybe he was taking a shortcut?

personally i think thats the marine base in Yuma AZ, but yeah Fort Sill likes to make noise. TBh tho Tinker AFB is where my dad was stationed most of the time so we always lived close to it.

I was stationed in Va in the USMC, it was a police state from DUI road blocks, daytime license checkpoints, radar etc. No state I've ever been to appears to have such a robust police presence than Va. Back in the early 80's one of the Marines in my Company came back on base with muddy tires and our chain of command made him scrub the mud up with a bristled brush and a bucket of water (Naval Support Facility, Thurmont Md)

yeah the even the MPs here are tight. Fort Belvoir always has an MP parked in the middle of route 1. Dude is always giving someone a ticket when i drive pass there. I have a marine buddy who got a bike but didn't have his license yet. He couldn't get into Quantico with it. So we tossed it in my truck bed to get in on base.
