Ok, so i have a 23' JTM. I'm trying to save weight and run my truck light as possible cus i got soft ass springs. I have a rugged ridge stubby steel bumper and a 12k winch mounted to it. idk how much it weighs but if i had to guess its close to 130-150lbs. For the sake of lightness i would like to run my winch on the lightest stubby bumper possible. I think the OE steel on would be it, just toss in a quality winch plate? So if anyone knows, is there a cheap version of the OE steel and will i actually save weigjht? If, not can I modify my OE bumper to fit a Winch plate? Can i modify it to be a stubby?

Rock Hard aluminum is light. Rugged Ridge arcus is also light, about the same (around 35-38 lb. each, without the arcus hooks). For the winch, use synthetic rope and don't go overboard on hook or other attachment weight. Aluminum hawse is lighter than the roller fairlead by about 8 lb. Replace the huge and heavy (over 20 lb) arcus hooks with the recovery point attachments for the XHD bumper on a JK (9 lb). You can pull the weight penalty down to about 70 lb, over the stock plastic bumper that way, and get minimal front end sag and little change in bounce on potholes, etc.

According to their website, that MP Concepts bumper does not convert to a stubby (end caps are not removeable).

Who cares? The entire bumper weighs only 41 lbs., end caps, winch plate and all!

If true, that would be amazing.

Don't forget you can now buy front and rear 2024 Mojave X springs which were specifcally selected for the OE steel bumpers mounted to a Mojave.

They use the same shocks.

I have the MP Concepts aluminum bumper. Plastic bumper weighed 35 lbs coming off; MPc weighed about the same going on (39 lbs with winch fairlead and fog lights - around 37 lbs without the fairlead? 32 bare metal with no brackets or fog lights). The end caps definitely come off. Design is exactly the same as the Mopar steel and works the same.

Why does their own literature state "end caps do not come off"....

losing a lot of sales from that.

This is the MP concepts aluminum bumper during install. The end caps do come off to make a stubby. Extremely light.

If you have some DIY skills, there's also been some members that have modified the OEM plastic front bumper to work with a winch plate and hidden winch, which would probably save the most weight.

Example: https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/...ock-plastic-rubicon-bumper-diy-writeup.60991/
I would definitely cut up my stock except im running 37s with no lift and she contacts a little. so i'd need to stubby it somehow, also its the look i want as well. I also plan on getting the extended lower arms from mopar to get some caster and that'll only add to the rubbing as it will bush the axle forward.
